Problems with this movie (Spoilers)

1. At the opening scene, the captain of the sub tells his crew that they are about to enter soviet waters. But the location information on the screen just before he says this, states that they are already 50 miles inside soviet waters.

2. Captain Ahab orders his sub to chase the whale toward an atoll that is near Hawaii. There are no atolls anywhere near Hawaii. Atolls are created by coral reefs in shallow water. The water depth around Hawaii drops rapidly from the island's shores to several thousand feet under the water. The nearest atoll to Hawaii is several thousand miles away.

3. After Ahab's sub loses its engine, the Executive Officer orders an emergency blow of the ballast tanks. This would cause the sub to rise to the surface at a shallow angle (no more than 30 degrees). But the sub is shown breaking the surface at a right angle to the surface (90 degrees).

4. Atolls are created by coral reefs. Erosion of the coral produces fine sand on the shores of the atolls. But the 'atoll' Ahab chases the whale into has a very rocky shore (big rocks), with no sand to be seen anywhere.

5. The nuclear torpedoes fired by the sub are apparently so powerful that they completely blow up the entire island. But the blast somehow misses Dr. Michelle Herman, as a rescue helicopter finds her floating in the ocean after the blast.

The best goof in my opinion is when Captain Ahab is on the boat speed towards Moby Dick to spear him. If you watch closely you'll see his missing leg is suddenly there.

I like when the girl comes on board the corridors of the ship branch off perpendicular to the main corridor - in each direction - like an office building. Actually I know this set. It's a standing space ship set in a warehouse out in Canoga Park. It's also an extremely cheep set. Makes you wonder where those hallways lead though.

i found it hilarious how a 500 foot whale could hide in 5 feet of water at edge of the beach lol and then jump over a mountain and without feet jump back into the water again lol
