A Refreshing + Believable Film - EXCELLENT

Memorial Day brought me to tears several times. It's not easy to do this to me and I tried unsuccessfully to control it. This film really hit home for me with its realism and character. The Cromwells were both at the top of their game and I really think James Cromwell deserves an Oscar for his role in this film. For all those people who had a loved one who went to war, you will understand how the Vogel family felt in this film. Oh that's right, it was only a film. I forgot for a minute because it seemed so real. This was a very well done movie and it may not get full credit due to the fact it had a very small budget. But, the stories in this film were skillfully presented in a way that pulls you in and makes you feel like you are there. And James Cromwell really delivered in a role that is worthy of serious Oscar consideration. I am proud to rate this film FIVE STARS.

I agree with you, the film was excellent and James Cromwell deserves a nod for his performance.

Paddle faster....I hear banjos!

I agree, and to add I'm surprised this film never made it to a more wide release. With all the c*ap that Hollywood is cranking out, see this was refreshing!

I know where I've been shot, dammit, I'm a doctor!

Just saw this on the CW and cried & cried. My Dad and Uncle were in WWII-my Uncle Tom lost a lung on a field in France. They never really talked about what happened during that time, but I have always been interested in books, movies & tv shows about WWII. This movie was so real as far as the memories, pain and sacrifice those men and their families went through so that we would not have to speak German. James and John Cromwell both gave outstanding performances and should have been nominated for Oscars. Just a great movie to use to teach my grown kids, their kids & grandkids about what sacrificing for your country really means. Just bought the DVD so I can share with my family.

So glad you bought the DVD. It was nice that the CW showed the film, but they cut out a lot of the movie, which was dissappointing. The DVD will do the film more justice.

reply

Really? I think I'll buy it as well. I enjoyed what I saw even in the edited for TV version. I never even heard of this before today. Saw it, had to come here to learn more. The Cromwell's are amazing... superb performances.

I agree that James Cromwell was great in his role...
I love him as an actor.

Don't you love excellent movies that prove a big budget isn't necessary?

I also really liked this movie. The grandfather later said how it was good talking about it as before that he had not really spoken about it, and his reasons why it was good for him to get it out.
It also made me think of my father and uncles who fought in WW2. They talked about it, so we had some idea of what they went through and some of them saw some hellish combat. I was always glad they talked as I would want to know what they went through, though I realize it can be so tough to talk about it. I think it also helped them to talk about it.

Do you need a bowman!?
