Isn't Streisand To Old To Be Rogen's Mother?

the two could certainly pass for mother and son. but it would have made more
sense for her to be Rogen's grandmother.

reply

Huh? Rogen is 30 (THIRTY) and Streisand, while 70, could easily pass
for 60, making her character 30 when her "son" was born.

reply

I know her age but for cripes sake she sure doesn't look it! I don't think an audience will mind.

Scarlett shot first!

reply

Streisand does not look 70. Hell she looks fantastic for her age. She could easily pass for Rogen's mother. I think she looks WAY too young to be his grandmother.

reply

She looks good and she could have been a late mother.. like in her 40's and have a 30 year old boy at 70! it's not that far fetched!

reply

I don't think it really matters since its just a movie. Like someone else said, she easily looks a decade younger than she is and could certainly pass as his mother.

reply

Rogen looks older than 30.

reply

she looks amazing

and

actor's age =/= character's age

reply

Exactly! That's what happened with my mom when she had me (kid #2). She was a month shy of turning 38 when she had me. I'm 35 and she's 73.

reply

Well of course Barbara does not look 70. All it does mean is you sit through the entire film wondering how much botox and plastic surgery she has had!

Its that man again!!

reply

Right you are and not just that, but even if they said she was 70 in the movie, it is common these days of women having babies in their 40's. So either way he could be her son easily.

reply

The character said she was with Andy Margolis at 19-20 and had her son 2 years later. So basically, they're saying she had her son at 21-22 making her almost 20 years younger than her real age, 50 instead of 70.

reply

I can't watch this movie. Barbra Streisand looks like she could be his girfriend or sister, but no way mother.

reply

Right - or his daughter.

reply

Well, she only LOOKS around 55, so on-screen it seems fine. Sad (to me) that she is using her valuable maturity on silliness like this (I saw it) but, what the hell, we'll always have "Funny Girl"..."On a Clear Day"..."What's Up Doc"...
Owl and the Pussycat"...etc

reply

Even though Barbara Streisand is 70 but I will admit that she looks stunning and could pass off for 50.

reply

40-year-old women can and do give birth. My grandmother was like 43 when she had my uncle. He's a year older than me and we went to the same grammar school.

Well, if you saw it, you would have seen her credit as Executive Producer, shared with Seth. It was her/their movie, not a POS that someone asked her to be in.

What is wrong with that?

Streisand had some harsh criticism in 1982 when filmming YENTL from writer Isaac Bashevis Singer (who wrote the original short story in the mid-60s). The character YENTL was a young girl in her early 20s {portraying a younger male), and he had problems with a 40 year old Streisand playing the part.

Diana Ross was 34 when she played Dorothy in 'The Wiz' and was chastised by critics knowing a 34 year old actress could NOT play a teen-age girl. So they changed the story around, and made Ross a 30-something year old teacher with a 'child like innocence'. Didn't work...the film bombed.

Streisand originally wanted her friend Liz Taylor to play her mother in the 1996 comedy 'The Mirror Has Two Faces'. Taylor was only ten years older than Streisand, and refused to play the part - knowing it wouldn't be convincing to the audience.

Streisand faces that same problem now - on a different level - as she attempts to play the 40-something year old Rose in the upcoming "Gypsy" ; stage-mother to her young children. Streisand will be in her 70s by the time this gets off the ground.

The movie worked for me ... I didn't give it a thought. I was too busy laughing and smiling.

reply

Yes, I agree especially in the context of the movie. She was 23 or 24 when she gave birth to "Andy" making her early to mid 50's. It's definitely a stretch knowing the actors' real ages.

reply

And if Alex had any older siblings in the movie, it would be very normal to have a 70 year old mom.

I will admit that Barbara Streisand aged very well at 70.

reply

Yeah..hey, people.. I'm going to be 70 when my son turns 30! I've already warned him to take care of his (much younger) dad..because otherwise, that's going to be US in 10 years..my husband is the only thing standing between my son and a road trip with mom... :/

reply

I kind of laughed when she was talking about menopause and hot flashes. She's probably a good 20 years past menopause!

I said the same thing. Like lady, you wish. Lol

reply

I didn't even k ow she was 70! lol

But no, I don't think she was too old. She fit perfectly as his mother. Definitely better than when they have women being mothers of someone 10 years younger than them
