Well, what did you think?

Special effects?

Characters?

Plot?

Acting?

Overall?

Should it be a series?

reply

Although the special effects were better than the usual saturday night *beep* syfy movie, they still werent really up to snuff. Nor was anything else really. Over all I will say its head and shoulders above the usual syfy movies but thats not saying much considering the comparison.

Also, I dont really like what they did with alec mason. Took a die hard character and turned him into a drunk moody prick. Why build up good characters and then piss all over them?

Anyway not bad but not that great either. it gets a 5/10 from me.

I agree with most of what has been posted above. I guess it helps if you saw the earlier movies based on the game. If this is supposed to go to series I recommend explaining the backstory more and I think that the characters need to have more interaction that seems like it matters for the story as opposed to being mouthpieces for exposition.

After watching their Thor abomination a couple of weeks ago, Red Faction is an Oscar contender in comparison. I was expecting to turn it off after 10-15 minutes as I usually do with SciFi's Saturday "movie, but this was one of the more watchable offerings by them in quite a while.

It wasn't bad. I'd give it a chance as a series.

Strictly as a viewer of the movie, it was OK (I had low expectations going into it). However, I didn't think it spent enough time on what I thought was potentially very interesting...the bad guys they didn't really introduce us to until over an hour into the movie. Also, the way the movie ended, it didn't really seem like they left enough story to set up a series (especially one set relatively soon after with the same cast).

As for the characters, Jake was kind of bland but OK. The Earth-born girl was all right, but they didn't really have any chemistry together IMO. Adam Hale looked like he could've been interesting if they had bothered to spend any time on him before he went mental. Don't particularly care for the Marauders. Alec Mason was basically what I expected, and I really have no opinion of the sister.

The special effects were all right for what it was. I don't remember cringing too much at some of those shots.

Special effects? Laughable and typical Syfy effects. I'm saying typical Syfy effects because of course, they're only redoing the same effects they've used in other movies. From the 'shaky spacecraft crashing into the planet' effect I've seen in their countless "originals" to the ellaborate failure fights with characters being thrown around with pinkish fake-ketchup on their face, the

Characters? They hired famous Robert Patrick to play Alec Mason. Syfy had a good idea attaching a big name to their movie. Unfortuinately, crap has plenty of big names attached to it as well, but it's still crap. Crap can't be changed by what you call it because in the end, it's still stuck to your shoe and smelling something awful, and you're wishing it would have never been *beep* out.

Plot? Twisted and pathetic, they managed to take the premise of events after Alec Mason's revolution and slaughtered his character, making him into a pathetic drunk without a sense of meaning. I can see him being like a malicious veteran like Eastwoods preformance in Gran Torino, but not a pathetic drunk puss-cake like in this movie. Any aspect of his assertive voice is gone, and he's now simply put, neutered.
Complaint #2, they managed to put decent detail into the props, costumes, a few guns and whatever (they didn't manage to get the pistols right of course), but when it comes to the buildings, I'm not saying their budget was a problem... It's just a clich'e Low production SYFY ethic, crappy scenery.
And finally, #3. I feel sorry for THQ. Very, very sorry. I hope that they never make the mistake of getting Syfy's name stuck on their property ever again. I hope they make a decent 'Origins' videogame THAT DOESN'T FOLLOW SYFYS *beep* STORYLINE.

Acting? I'm not going to blame the actors for the bad acting, because with the right man, you can teach a chihuahua to sit. Nevertheless, the acting was terrible, and it doesn't take Cesar Millan to train a good actor. Unless I'm somehow Cesar Millan.

Overall? Overall I'd rather see Zoolander for the seventh time. I literally can't stand 7 minutes of this 'movie' without thinking about rewatching anything more interesting.

Should it be a series? Hell no, but they will do it anyway, it's Syfy after all. This show's a disgrace as it is, they should give Syfy an award for the uncanning ability to turn something decent into a pile of roasted *beep*
