i actually came here to see how many threads there were bitching about Wes Bently playing a samurai type character like Gyllenhaal got for Prince of Persia. surprised people aren't having a field day with this movie

The term is "B-Movie," and it's surprisingly good for a low budget flick. A little Star Wars (lovingly inspired by, not simply copied), a little Circle of Iron, and a pronounced Japanese ethic and motif.
The only overt flaws were a few extras with speaking parts that sounded hammy, and a conquered world with a slave culture that inexplicably seemed to span only a small region, that could topple at the loss of one dominant figure. One can't help but wonder why the "non-human" population simply didn't pack up and spend a week on the road in any direction to attain freedom.
Still, flaws aside, it's a good story, with a respectable "message."
