Why did Stuart M. Put plastic bag on hand?

I am curious why Stuart puts the plastic bag on his hand before jumping to end his life? The Ghost Position. Season 2 Ep. 1 .
Thanks for not thinking this is an odd question, ahead of time. I am in the States and just don't know if this was something I don't understand or ??
