Promos for this show on PBS
I think I would enjoy this show but the promos running endlessly on WGBH in the Boston area are awful. Some whiny moaning song and a montage of anst-filled scenes. Not appealing at all. Is the show worth watching?
That's interesting, because in Los Angeles, they almost never advertise it. If I hadn't actively searched for it, I'd never have known it existed.
To answer your question, it sounds, by the way you ask it, that Vera might not be your cuppa tea. The atmosphere is rather dreary and the music mournful. I love it, but I have somewhat odd tastes, I think.
Actually, it's exactly the kind of show I usually enjoy. The broodiness and moodiness would not normally bother me at all as long as the acting and writing are great. And I've liked Brenda Blethyn in everything I've seen her in. Maybe it's just that the couple of bars of the song that they keep playing over and over again are grating when they are taken out of context.
