Jodie's Error

It was so obvious, I can't believe it wasn't caught as they were filming much less getting past the editors. The first time the Cowlings are at the door to leave, Jodie calls Winslet "Kate", rather than her character's name Nancy. I loved the film. I thought all the actors were superb.

I watched the scene three times since I read your post....it's on now, and Jodie Foster never called her "Kate". If you're talking about the first time they left the apartment, before the conversation continued in the hallway and they were invited back in by John C. Reilly for "real" coffee. Foster never called Winslet "Kate".

reply

No he's absolutely correct. She DOES call her Kate.
I just played the movie back again and even did it with the subtitles on.
When they are walking the couple to the door for the first time (five minutes into the film)

Nancy: "Well, well we hope it all turns out alright"

Penelope: "one can only hope...
Listen, umm... Kate, he didn't want to tell on Zachary"

Michael: "No he didn't want to tell"

reply

Well, maybe they fixed it in some releases, because I can clearly hear "Listen, umm... he, he didn't want to tell on Zachary". Admittedly the first stuttery "he" is almost like "khe", but absolutely no chance it sounds "Kate".

I just watched this movie and rewatched the scene - unless it was dubbed over, there is no mistaking whatso ever that Jodie said "listen, he.. he didnt want to tell on Zachary"

The "he" was clear as day

reply

She clearly says "Listen.. he... he didnt want to tell Zachary". She makes an explosive sound on "he" (almost "khee") wich sort of sounds like "Kate".

reply

Well it must sound so much like Kate that it actually fooled the person that programmed the subtitles.
Because the dialog I wrote here wasn't what I thought I heard, I was just copying exactly what the subtitles said on my screen.

reply

I'm quite certain what she says is "Look he...".

reply

She doesn't say "Kate", it's just a slight slur of speech, probably from "look he" as said before.

The word "bollocks" is not censored by IMDB (yet) :D
