The only Mexican director who matters!

As a Mexican and a filmmaker, I can knowingly state (in opinion) that outside of Memo Del Toro (who just plain plays in another league) and very occasionally Poncho Cuaron (and by occasionally I mean once), Luis Estrada is THE ONLY director of any relevance and importance in this country. The Inarrituz and the Reygadas and the rest of the pontificating fakers who are only looking to get smoke blown up their ass by foreign film festivals, should take note from this daring visionary who somehow manages to paint the bleakest (and truest) of pictures while making a grander point and keeping his audience laughing, entertained and engaged the whole way through. Pure genius! El unico que importa!

Mexico 2010, NADA QUE CELEBRAR!

I wouldn't say Estrada is the only one that matters but "El Infierno" demonstrates once more the good director that he is. I loved "La ley de Herodes" and "Un mundo perfecto" (don't remember the exact name of this one) but I would say that "El Infierno" is so good that it just couldn't be better.

ok, you're Mexican & filmmaker.

Luis Estrada is the ONLY director that matters....

so you're film making sucks! I think is time to get another job. (this is all said by you or did I miss something?)

Well, since I am still young, and have no delusions of grandeur, sucking is fine by me right now but thanks for trying to be a dick about it. And yes Estrada IS the only one that matters around here, the rest of us are just trying to catch up.

Humility.

Look it up.

Entertainment can become art. But if you set out to make art, you're an idiot.

What do you think about Alejandro Lozano (Matando Cabos) and Hugo Rodriguez (Nicotina) ?

reply

Alejandro Lozando sucks. They are not in the same league. I know my comment sounds visceral, but he doesn't have the vision or the technical knowledge create works like Estrada's.

reply

I never heard of Luis Estrada before watching El Infierno, but I can't wait to see more.
