Felt like a fail to me

I expected more from pixar, no seriously. I find the majority of their movies amazing. I seriously thought that this was going head to head with all of the other movies like this one. As in this isn't original. It's the typical story of the underdog vs the winner. It seemed to me exactly like 'turbo' except this time it was planes and not snails. It just seemed like they took the script of cars and made them planes. No seriously. Dusty Crophopper is a plane version of Lightening McQueen (not as full of himself, but still), I really only appreciated the Mexican plane, who was absolutely hilarious, if I do say myself. What do you guys think?

It's not a Pixar movie. Just Disney. It did seem very cheaply made. Like a B-movie. Planes flying against a background require little animation. Not much activity or atmosphere to draw you into scenes. The one that really stood out was the beer hall, which should have been raucous and jammed, but felt static and empty. If had been a TV movie it might have tempered expectations, but was expecting Pixar, or Disney-best, level effort. It's funny how expectations can partly determine enjoyment. Fresh characters or an original script might have overcome these limitations, but alas, that was not to be.

It's not even "Disney," as in the Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) that made Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and now Frozen (along with every other "Disney animated feature" in that famous canon stretching back 76 years). Instead it was made by DisneyToon Studios, which normally produces the company's cheap, crappy direct-to-video movies. Including Pixar, there are three separate "Disney" studios we're discussing here.

That's exactly what it is, and the animation is outsourced overseas as well (I'm not sure whether Disney owns those overseas studios, but the point is that they're cheap), while WDAS' work is done in-house at significant cost (about $150 million for Frozen, for example).

Oh wow, I didn't know that, LOL :D i'm sorry for having high expectations, but when it says "from the world of cars" I expected it to be made by pixar.

That's OK, it's a natural assumption, and one that I made myself the moment I first found out about it. Then I looked for the Disney•Pixar logo, and didn't see it. The whole situation with the various Disney-owned animation studios is confusing, and sometimes people even mix up WDAS and Pixar because of subject matter. For example, many assumed that Brave was from WDAS because it is a "princess movie" and that Wreck-It Ralph was from Pixar because it is a video game movie, but they actually had it backwards--surprise!

As for the movie Planes itself, I'm surprised that this got a theatrical release. It's not horribly, laughably bad for kiddie fare, but it's talky and pedestrian, as well as overly straightforward and predictable. It's just a boring movie. Now, by Pixar or WDAS standards, it is a horrible movie, and it often gets blamed on one of those studios or the other. Disney really should be more protective of their own brand, as well as the Pixar brand, for that matter.

The movie had too much talking and too little action. The little ones got bored pretty quickly...

Plus it was a rehash of Cars 1 ... Rookie trying to break into the league, meets up with grumpy old veteran, etc...

Should of gone straight to DVD or disney channel not the box office but alas greed knows no bounds

I thought it was cute and entertaining. I enjoyed it.

I agree, but don't understand all the flack the film took, I thought it was rather good, yes maybe a rip-off of cars I agree, but in it's own right it had a good story with good animation and kids would love this sort of thing, also nice to have a few celebs e.g John Cleese thrown in as well.

A 7/10 I gave it. :)
