I saw the trailer and was really excited to see this. I was able to at SXSW this year and to be completely honest this was a terrible movie. The acting was bad, writing was weak and the direction was nothing to write home about. It's awesome that this director was able to get his first feature out (I imagine with the help from Rodrigez and Troublemaker) but it just wasn't very good. My biggest issues with the movie was how it was ham fisted in it's use of stereotypes. I don't get offended really by anything. If it's something that I don't agree with or feel uncomfortable with then I'll "walk away." But the friend had MD who was insulted everly two minutes and the black funeral was complete with fried chicken and watermelon and many more. I wasn't offended by the stereotypes but by the use of them. It was just one after another; and I get what was being said "We are all stereotypes so we are all the same; let's get along." A nerd main character, the "cute" ugly girl who is secretly in love with him and the comic relief, 5th-wheel awkward best friend. I've seen in it in every teen movie. I'd be okay with the cliche of it all if it was at least done well.

I could not disagree more. While I did feel at times that the writing and the acting could have been better, I felt that on the whole it was a very good film, particularly the performance female lead. As for the use of stereotypes the movie is a dark comedy called blacktino of course it's going to have a lot of racial content and I didn't think they were ham fisted at all, I thought most of it was actually pretty funny. I hope this movie has some sort of release besides just SXSW so more people could get to see it, and I actually want to see it again.
