What movie reference at the very beginning?

You know when emperor palpatine is falling down and out freezes and starts playing baba o'reilly and he recounts his life? What movie is that referencing/spoofing?

What's the exact opposite of Christopher Reeve? Christopher Walken

I don't think it is a specific movie that they are referencing, but a bunch of them. They were using the "How We Got Here" trope.
If you like to pinpoint it, I would say the closest candidates are "American Beauty", which uses Baba O'Reilly in the soundtrack and starts with a voice-over, and Goodfellas also has the freeze frame, voice-over and cool music combination.

Anyway, I thought it was beautifully done, and I wished the whole episode continued in the same spirit. But considering the target audiences' attention span, I don't blame the writers...

I thought the same thing when I went to see megamind.
I could swear it's from something. Though, we do probably see it alot. Still, both megamind and the emporeor were falling.

I'd say it's from megamind, but I don think megamind did it originally either. Maybe they did.
