Quirky, odd and brilliant.

I was thoroughly absorbed in this film right from the start of that wonderfully weird kiss/cat fight. Loved it. Never seen anything like it before. It was also nicely weird to see attenborough being referenced like this in a greek film.

I give you "quirky" and "odd" but "brilliant"? I was rather disappointed by it.
I was mesmerised by "Dogtooth" last year and was hoping for yet another "weird but excellent" gem coming out of Greece. However, I found "Attenberg" was trying too hard. It had some good ideas and excellent scenes but, by and large, I thought it was rather dull.

One of my fave films this year.

I'm with you on all THREE counts, H-H. Just saw it on disc, and though I rarely comment on-line, felt I needed some outlet to vent some of my joyful appreciation for this sort of film -- quirky, odd and brilliant. It made less than 30 grand in this country. The indie circuit misssed out big on this one. I especially love how much the story is told VISUALLY -- cinematically. That's so refreshing after the domestic diet of ham-fisted, guide-you-by-the-hand narrative. Outrageously original and not just a little profound. My favorite film this year.

It's good, but hardly brilliant. If you like girls kissing and catfights, you're really going to love the internet.

Amen to all that! That opening scene is a perfect way to hook (some) people into a movie, and it's good to know the magic of King David is universal.
