I would have wanted to kill those SOBs, but...

I was born in the Netherlands and my parents emigrated to the US in the mid-'50s. My parents grew up as teenagers during the Nazi occupation and subsequent liberation by US and Canadian forces. They told me a lot of stories -- how the Germans looted the stores and pretty much left the people to starve; a well-documented atrocity where the Germans took retribution on a town, etc. I really wish I had done a better job of documenting their stories, as they are gone now.
My reaction to seeing this is mostly asking myself if I had been there, what would I have done?
When watching this, you think that your first impulse would be wait until one of those bastards was alone and in a position for me to overpower them, then bash his head in, take his gun, shoot some more, take their guns and grenades, and take out as many as I can.
But of course, I probably would be too scared do that, because I would probably die trying, and probably my family and half the town will be killed as a result, as well.
That had to be a difficult time. Not really sure what I would have done. Probably pretty much what the people in this movie did. Try not to antagonize the occupying soldiers and try to stay alive, and maybe try in secret to defeat them somehow.
