I saw Despicable Me 1 but I can't remember anything about it. Do I need to know anything before I watch Despicable Me 2?

Both stories are pretty much unrelated.
They reuse some of the gags with the mimions so its probably best to forget about the first one before watching the second one if you want to have the best experience
Well if you consider that it's a kids' movie, and a lot of kids are either to young to have seen the first one, or too immature/undeveloped to remember, the bar is set pretty low in terms of applicability of references pertaining to past material.
