Why didn't I like Lucy?

Saw the movie yesterday, liked it a lot, enjoyed the 3D effects, loved the minions. But I didn't like Lucy, right from the very first scene, and can't figure out why. Husband said he didn't like her either, and neither of us can express why. Anyone else feel the same way?

reply

Because they didn't make us feel invested in her character, like she had some flaw we could relate with, or some obstacle she had to overcome. She was a rookie agent and she did a passable job and was re-assigned per normal rules after her assignment ended. Other than her over-zealous karate, there really wasn't much...character development. She was blah.

reply

Thanks. I think that's it. Plus I found her over-zealous karate/jujitsu/whatever very annoying.

I didn't have any problem with Lucy's character, it's just that everytime she spoke, I heard Lola Bunny, of course because Kristen voices that character. Most of her lines felt like unused lines for that character.

reply

I didn't like her either. Not sure what it was. I hope that she has only minor appearances in future movies in the franchise.

reply

Watching this movie, every time she spoke that was all I heard and how the character came across.

reply

Uggggghh, I didn't know that...maybe that's why I wasn't totally charmed by this character...there was just something about her I couldn't put my finger on, that prevented me from really liking her. This might've been it. I LOATHE that non-Lola on The Looney Tunes Show (which I don't really even like, either. Give me the classic Looney Tunes, Space Jam, Back in Action, Baby Looney Tunes, and Tiny Toons, but NOT that.) That irritating, 'Overly Attached Girlfriend' of a clingy, brainless bimbo is Lola's demented, less attractive twin or sister or cousin, lol. That must have been what was coming across in Lucy that turned me off.

reply

Probably because she was Kristen Wig. As in she acted like herself and didn't change her voice at all. I just kept imagining Bridesmaids and her character from that.

reply

My sister thought the chick from the Wendy's commercials did Lucy's voice. LOL

I don't blame her, they sound a little similar.

reply

I was thinking that too, but then I remembered seeing Kristen Wiig's name in the opening credits. Lucy seemed hotter when I thought she was the Wendy's chick.

aw she was pretty much the only reason I ended up liking the movie! I thought she and Gru were so cute together! Sure she basically became a Damsel in Distress but all in all I liked her the most out of any characters!

psychologically speaking, maybe you're ok with guys with long noses but girls with long noses feel like shemales?

reply

I don't like her because she's annoying, and she tries too hard to be a cool, awesome spy.

Correction: She's extremely annoying. To me, she's even more annoying than Shannon and Jillian.

reply

I think I disliked her because she distracted from what I really wanted to see: Gru and the girls interacting. Not only was I not invested in her character at all but I didn't care for the romance plot. I think they tried too hard to make her hip and cool but she lacked the heart and the soul the characters from the first movie had.

Less Lucy and more Edith, Margo and Agnes would have been so much better.

Before I read anyone else's comments, I once read online that some people don't like a certain character because they're adjusted to the old characters that appeared in the first film. So maybe you're not quite used to her. I don't think I liked her much either (maybe just a little) but I'm kinda getting used to her. Well, I think I am pretty much used to her by now. I don't know, but I'd say I am. Trust me, I like going online while watching the film On Demand but I don't look up too often, I guess since I wanna be online at the same time and do stuff online. But yeah, I also love the minions. They're just so adorable and I liked them back then, too (when I saw the first film) but they really grew on me by the second film. Now I'm crazy about them and I also carry my Despicable Me 2 poster (it's a Japanese poster) with me and during job sites I bring my poster with me 'cause it has the minions on it and I love the movie. The minions are my #1 favorite and Agnes is my second (she's pretty adorable too), and Edith I guess is pretty cute. Kampai (cheers) to the minions!
