On fandor.com there is an interview with Solondz. He says Abe is George Castanza. The scene where Abe's parents are listening to the TV and its playing what sounds like Seinfeld is the proof.

Makes sense. Underneath the laugh track is some really depressing *beep* when it comes to George.

Brilliant point! Abe and Costanza are both: Spoiled mamas boys, have problems with father, fat, bald, unattractive, underachievers, entitled, intelligent. But most importantly, both of their stories ended awfully... just lazy. Lol
