Elizabeth searches the Net for Mark's ex-girlfriend, finds her photo, and sees she is a dead ringer for herself...and nothing is wrong?!!!
That would have freaked me out seriously!!!!

Why would that freak you out? Because he has a type?
He hit her because he was an abuser not because she looked like his ex. He would have hit any girl he was with, no matter how she looked.
I still found it chilling that she was almost literally a twin to Elizabeth.
And judging by Elizabeth's reaction and the ominous music in that scene, her likeness was supposed to be significant.
While Mark was an abuser and I'm sure he would be anyway, I really think some of the rage he expressed was actually at his ex.
The enraged look he gives her in the van as he smashes her cheek, is an example.
