Accents

I'm interested to know what others think of the accents in South Riding. To me they seem to be a mixture of Northern accents rather than Yorkshire, or more particularly East Yorkshire. I know there was some discussion of this on the BBC messageboard and one person commented on the prevalence of the West Yorkshire accent. John Henshaw (Mr Huggins) is a great character actor but his Mancunian accent grates a little bit.

Mind you, I've noticed this in Coronation Street. Although its set in Manchester, many of the actors have very obvious Yorkshire accents.

I guess this sounds picky but coming from West Yorkshire I notice these things!

I used to work (in London) with a Mancunian who was never done lamenting the number of Yorkshire accents in Corrie!

Well David is an Evertonian by birth but I heard not even a hint of Liverpool in his accent - sometimes it is hard to mask an accent and some small inflection creeps in but he's has succeeded :))
