Soooo, Soooo FAKE

Yes, yes I know that "reality" tv shows are not actually real but I don't want it thrown in my face every five minutes. Every time anyone opened their mouth it was painfully obvious that they were acting. Not to mention the charity cupcake sculpture situation are we really supposed to believe that a large national charity orders for a cupcake sculpture the day before the event, really?????

reply

Agreed.

reply

Yes, completely agreed.

It really was painful to watch. I love shows about baking and cakes and stuff (I just find it fascinating, and in another life I would have loved to go to pastry school or something), but this was just awful.

How did these people get their own show? I mean, I'm sure their cupcakes are very popular in Georgetown, but they're terrible on television.

I don't even think I want to TiVo anymore episodes.

Ugh.

It's not stalking if you both just happen to be at the same party...

reply

Actually guys, my mom was one of the people running this event and there was a last minute cancellation from another restaurant so they did call them at the last minute. All of that was real. I'm super excited for tonights episode about the Greek festival! That's my church! I was working at the festival all weekend and saw the cameras so hopefully I see myself on tv!

reply

I can believe they could do a last minute order. As much as I love shows about cupcakes/cakes this one is not starting off good. The girls are so obvious about trying to act & even the staff!

Joe, I'm gonna leave the couch now, ok? My ass is falling asleep, so I gotta go.

reply

but the guy who came in from the girls class actually works at gt cupcakes as well. I know because i'm friends with him lol. they just didn't want to pay some random actor when he was already there

reply

The one that Hanna liked?? He works there? Wow. He was cute by the way, lucky.

"Live Today Like You'll Die Tomorrow"

reply

I am watching the Greek Festival episode as I write this...these girls are beyond annoying! Everything is TOTALLY set up! When that dude from Hanna's class showed up and then later, HAPPENED to text her as she was supposed to be stirring the icing, I just shook my head. It was so obviously planned in advance. Stupid stupid stupid!! Did they really think that that stunt would be entertaining in any way possible?!

Seriously, Sophie and Katherine remind me of informercial actresses and that is an insult to informercial actresses.

This is the first episode I have ever watched, and it will definitely be the last.

reply

Hah! I'm also watching that episode right now and felt so compelled by their acting to come here and post about it. The fire was sooo scripted. whenever anyone delivers their lines (aka talks), it sounds so painfully forced. What a shame. I like baking shows a lot, and was excited to see some girls run the show for once, but it just sucks. Amazing wedding cakes trumps dc cupcakes. even cake boss trumps dc cupcakes...

Now. . . bring me that horizon

reply

but both of those shows are just as scripted. They're all awful.

If you hate Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it, copy this and make it your signature!

reply

Haha, I wanted to give this show a little more credit about not REALLY being that obviously staged.

But the cute guy text/ burning chocolate scene was just PAINFUL to watch!!! SOOOOOO beyond set up. You knew what was going to happen right when the dude was telling her if she didn't constantly stir it, it would burn. The "cute guy" just HAPPENED to pick that moment to ask her out on a date? And they HAPPENED to get it all perfectly on camera?

Do they think we're idiots? lol. It's almost funny to watch the show now just to see if it could possibly be any more contrived.

reply

I'm glad someone mentioned forced lines. It's so obvious they are reading. Besides how phony their expressions are, you can see their eyes moving to read. It reminds me of the show that used to be on which followed a Vegas casino staff. They ran the Green Valley Ranch. Their "interviews" were the same way. Every person was reading. I can't remember the name of the show.

reply

I totally agree! I also think that the blonde sister sounds like a complete goober. There's something in the tone of her voice that makes her seem slow.

reply

I too love all the baking/decorating shows but this one is just soooo scripted. I have been watching this with my family every week and we just laugh at how they actually expect us to believe none of this is planned. We don't think this show will last much longer, but really you can't do that much with cupcakes....
Cupcake Wars is interesting enough (although that lame host belongs on DC), but leave the "reality" shows to the cake people.
I do enjoy the Girl's Next Door as a guilty pleasure but they are waaaay more natural on camera than these DC girls. Haha it really is funny in the interviews, makes me wonder how many times they had to practice the line to make it sound just right. Sorry girls, you've got a good thing going but you should stay away from tv. Maybe try Cupcake Wars!

reply

Why would they put this crap on TV?! Every word that comes out of their mouths is scripted. It's like the producer walks in and is like
producer: ok so for today's episode you're going to be upset about some moldy strawberries...go
annoying blonde chick: oh no...these...strawberries are moldly! uh oh

SO painful to watch...it's like a bad car accident

reply

this show is terrible

reply

wow, do I agree!!! I've actually been to GT Cupcakes a couple of times (once in the old location, once the new). The cupcakes are pretty good, but watching the show makes me not want to go there any more. All the people are unlikeable and the 'set ups' are so ridiculous. I'm not sure I've seen a genuine moment on the show yet. I know there's scripting going on in reality shows, but this one is just blatant.

and the worst part, that is utterly unforgivable, is that the show is *boring*

reply

yea, and if you watch carefully, in the conversations, you know it is for sure set up with unfrosted then frosted then unfrosted cupcakes.. like the frosting disappears or something... hmmm

this show is totally set up, and i was so excited for it, and now it has just fizzled..

reply

Omg! This show is so fake! I especially love the fake conversations between the girls and the customers.

Customer: "I am so excited to see how it turns out!" *fake grin*
Girls: "We are so excited to make it!!!" *huge fake grin*
Me: *eyeroll*

reply

I just watched the show for the first time tonight and had to come on here to comment on how fake it is. These people are THE WORST actors in the world. And it's obvious that any "drama" is set up. Come on, the random employee eating the caramel candy that was supposed to indicate the caramel cupcakes? It was like a very bad sitcom moment.

Both sisters are annoying and I really hope they aren't that condescending to their mother in real life. They need to spend some money on acting lessons so they can at least pretend anything on the show is real.

reply

I came on here just to see if anyone else noticed this, or I was just paranoid! I could hardly get through the episode tonight, and def won't be watching another one. It's a shame, because they seem like they are nice hardworking people...but they make my ears bleed every time they act...I mean "talk".

reply

OMG. i am not all the way through the greek episode and it IS painful. bad bad acting! it is the blond sister especially.

BAD! no cupcake for bad actors!

reply

How the hell is it "fake?" Go to DC to their shop and you'll see exactly what you see on tv. Yeah some of it is "scripted" but who really gives a sh!t

In the end no one loses or wins. The story begins again & again.

reply

Nothing to complain about really. These shows are high budget infomercials masked as TV shows. Some where along the line the corporate people realized they could take some business sprinkle a little drama and call it a show. The network provides a camera crew, a little post production magic and gets dirt cheap ratings. The shop allows them to film a few situations here and there in return they get a huge boost in business.

reply

Yes, the networks love these kinds of shows because they're super cheap and easy to make, which means more profit in their pockets.

But on the other hand, they should at least attempt to find people with a little natural television charisma. There are tons of cupcake shops in the U.S. -- you can't tell me these people were the best option.

Regardless of how all these shows are scripted despite being "reality" tv, there's no excuse for the fakeness. tg
