A review of DC Cupcake's 'Sophie and Katherine'

While the show is obviously scripted! I find the sisters interesting. Sophie seems like a little soccer mom/Chef Sara Moulton. All eager to please, harried and rife with her frosting-ish fake smiles. She is a sweetie no doubt, but not much fun or depth there to watch. Katherine, on the other hand, is all burnished poise, flirty eyes and aware of the camera angles with which to deemphasize that nose. She seems ensconched in a battle between "Elaine Benes" of "Seinfeld" and an eighteen year old spoiled runway model.Though definitely the prettier of the two, she annd even Sophie, talk in a little girl/OMG!meets baby valley girl patois. It is initially fascinating to listen to otherwise grown women, prattle on like the cast of "Victorious" and other tween reality tv fare. However, the precious and girlish "American Girl" kitsch, eventually wears off and the women become exhausting and overly cutesy fast! The whole calling their mother "mommy" is not unexpected in light of their consta-pre-adolescent routine. It's as if they feel safer in a barbie fantasy life, complete with a little girls dessert food: CUPCAKES!! How prescient, these ladies resist middle age doldrums, by hawking an airbrushed confection of themselves and their food of passion. It is perfect for lifestyle hungry viewers, but for regular folks, it comes across as fake, airy, pointless and vapid, with nary any reason to be on tv. Oh and I kept hoping Katherine would go on a date with one of the firemen, maybe that guy Rodney. (Yes, I did watch a few episodes I admit!), now that would be some drama for viewers and boy would Sophie be jealous!
