Three Things...

i only saw about 15 minutes of one episode of this show but in that time, three things really bugged me....

the first thing i noticed was the blonde's (i didnt watch long enough, nor care enough, to catch her name) posture. to me she looked as if she was standing in a constant stooped over stance. she looked a bit like a hunchback and she never seemed to straighten up.

second, the way the girls kept calling their mother "mummy". there's just something about grown women using that term that seems wrong.

and finally, when their "mummy" brought her dog into the room where they do all their baking, i was almost sick. nothing like a little dog hair to go with your cupcakes!

i know this post was completely meaningless and in the grand scheme of things, these three minor details are just that: minor. but i just thought i'd air my feelings on the subject of this show.

...and even tho i only saw 15 mintues of the show, i also agree with some of the other posts.....it is WAY too scripted and fake (even by tlc's standards). i will NOT be adding this show to my dvr lineup.

Yeah the whole mommy thing bothered me too...and what was the point of her even being there? She didnt do anything. And the scene when they were putting the dog sculpture in the car...the dog jumped up into the back of the car and 'mommy' didnt even try to stop it...really?? Why would you let your dog do that?? I feel like she did that for 'drama'.

And the whole perfect swirl thing...umm it didnt look that hard to me.

I live in the DC-area and I really wanted to like this show, but after seeing the two episodes that were on and seeing how terrible they were, I just cant like it.

Not to defend these annoying girls, but sometimes calling your mom "mommy" or "mami" can be cultural. I'm not sure what nationality they are, but I'm italian american and we call our mother Mommy. My brother and I only call her that when talking to each other, though. I don't tell a friend "Hey, I'm going to my mommy's house today".

The girls are Greek as you will find out in tonights episode and I'm 100% Greek and still call my mom mommy. I would say it sort of is cultural because every Greek person I know still calls their mom, Mommy!
I'm super excited for tonights episode about the Greek festival! That's my church! I was working at the festival all weekend and saw the cameras so hopefully I see myself on tv!

I grew up with this Greek kid. He always called his mom "ma".

Anywho the brunette sister is hawt. That's all I gotta say about this show.

reply

They call their mom "mommy" because Ma is taken by Cake Boss.

I realize this thread is old, but I just thought I'd add in. As far as the whole mommy thing goes, I find that annoying too. That's fine if they want to call her that in privacy but it's kind of weird.

Now as for the posture thing, I noticed she slouches a lot too, but it might not be her fault. There is a disease called Scheuermann's Disease and it can cause your back to look like a hunch back. It's where the vertebrae don't form correctly, usually during puberty and the vertebrae get wedged. No matter how hard the person tries they can't make their back straight. I have this disease, but I got surgery to correct my posture. So as for that, she might not be able to help her posture.

And who are you to define what's weird? It's a cultural thing, get over yourself. Not everything revolves around North America, sheesh.
