Why did Terri abandon the Home Ec Girls?

I wouldn't say he abandon them. He just decided to start a friendship with the other girl. If anything, those girls became upset with him, because they didn't like the other girl. There was a scene when Terri said bye to them, but they just ignored him and gave him the cold shoulder.

I definitely would not say his friendship with those girls was genuine. They laughed at him continuously! Even the red haired one, they worked with him as a group in home ec but they constantly laughed and mocked him because of his strange ways and it was only after they saw what he saw they kind of accepted him a little more. Because he was someone that gave them the ultimate gossip and someone else they could bi tch about and make fun of. Terri always liked blondie more than anyone else in that school because he had a crush on her. So it made sense that he try and become friends with her instead of those bi thy home ec girls.

Those girls cr@pped on Terri. It was only after he made the class laugh, that they saw him as anything more than a moob-having neuter nerd. Those girls are the kinds of fair-weather friends that come-and-go very fast and very frequently. A good metaphor and example of Terri's years to come.
