Animal Scenes

I really want to see this film but I've heard that there are some scenes in which animals are seen killed violently. Without giving too much information away can anyone tell me if the scenes are really bad as I'm not keen to see this. Thank you

If your sensibility doesn't allow you to see scenes either of animal slaughter or animal cruelty (up to you to decide what the difference is), I wonder whether you can really experience all life has to offer...

And no, I haven't seen the film yet so I don't actually know the answer to the question.

If you didn't know the answer to my question then why bother replying?

I'm watching the film right now, and there was a fairly violent scene of a goat (I think it was) being killed by having it's neck slashed open.

But again, reiterating the first reply, if you can't handle scenes like that then I don't think this is the movie for you to begin with.

Thank you Jesse. I don't have a problem watching wildlife type programmes where animals kill others for food, that's nature, but I can't stand to watch humans kill animals violently. Think I might skip this film then!

This film is very fantastic though. While incredibly graphic in nature, that scene is not the most shocking. One that affected me very much, was one of the stampede at the 2010 Loveparade. That happened on 24th July 2010, the date that this entire film revolves around, so it did need to be included. But watching a scene like that, knowing that over 20 people were killed there (even though no death, or even real panic as what is sure to have happened is shown) affected me so much more than seeing an animal dying. I think it's a film that really needs to be seen; you're meant to be affected by scenes like animals dying and whatnot, otherwise what's the point in living?

reply

Way too violent.

There is a scene where a restrained cow is shot with a stun gun in the head (it misses and they redo it, the poor cow is thrashing all over), and then the cow has his neck sliced. It's very gruesome. But you have plenty of warning that it's about to happen so you can look away.

The worse scene is a goat having her neck sliced because there is NO warning and it happens in the middle of a montage at the end with fireworks. That was infuriating to me because there was NO way to expect it would happen so you could look away! That was wrong.

Another scene shows a fish being speared and he is thrashing. Another shows fish suffocating in a pan.

So you focus on the goat being killed rather than the 18 people being crushed to death? Ooooookay.

reply

and what's wrong with being more affected by animals being harmed than people? we aren't all the same with the same feelings/emotions, so we all respond to violence and pain differently. i'm a nurse and watch people die all the time, often painfully. but i could never watch an animal being harmed, it infuriates me to no end.

There was a cow getting shot in the skull and then it's neck slashed open, very much would have preferred this not be in the film... it's call LIFE in a day, not DEATH... likewise with the goat scene but it happened too fast to really notice for me.

An instant airgun blow to the brain is far faster and humane than what we see all the time in nature documentaries when a pack of wolves rips down a caribou. Most of the thrashing we saw was just nerves firing off as the cow died. It's not pretty, but since most of the people on this planet eat meat, slaughtering animals is part of human life.

Death is a part of life. In a day people are born and die. Same goes for animals. If none of this was shown the title would have been disingenuous.
