Why all the hate on this film?

I thought it was really strong... it had more genuinely scary moments than most contemporary horror films. Great sound design... and mix of genres.

His short film Little Farm is fantastic as well.

The hate is people who lack the attention span for something like this. I think this film is very surreal(for obvious reasons) and if people don't sit down and give it their full attention they will just think theyre watching pretentious garbage.

I agree -- it probably helps to have some familiarity with dream logic, surrealism, David Lynch, Dali, even Repo Man. It's truly like a nightmare; those seeking a beginning-middle-end story will be as annoyed as they must have been by Twin Peaks; Fire Walk with Me or Last Year at Marienbad.

I totally disagree. I gave to this movie all my attention. I like Dali, surrealism, Bunuel, David Lynch, etc. And sorry, for my book this is just a pitiful semi-remake of the much better CARNIVAL OF SOULS. But the old movie WAS a true nightmare and WAS frightening, when this one is simply grotesque. An YES, it's just pretentious garbage.

My feelings exactly. In fact, I would go so far to say that The Oregonian--which I rewatched recently to make sure I hadn't been unjustly hard on it--is a juvenile, dumbed down attempt at the brilliance of directors like Lynch and Bunuel. It's a sorry mess of a film, and I think the less consideration given to it the better.
