Anyone think that Meadows should've just made another film?

I like Shane Meadows' work and I think that 'This Is England' is his best film, however, I felt that this mini-series sequel left alot to be desired. One of the greatest aspects of the film is that it was directed in a workmanlike fashion by Meadows; it had a very strong through-line and was precise, specific and crucially all the action seemed to progress naturally.
The mini-series on the other hand I thought was very ill-conceived, unlike the film the pace plods, many comedic sequences felt forced instead of emerging naturally out of the situation, the acting also seemed poor in some scenes and the improvised sequences stuck out like a sore thumb; most of all though I thought that it was underwritten, there were plot strands that didn't go anywhere, characters that were used as plot devices instead of being treated as real people and when crucial moments of drama should've been played out naturally, we were instead subjected to montages of depressed faces and piano music which I found to be incredibly underwhelming and a little insulting.
