Why only 4 episodes?

This show is absolutely brilliant, as was the movie. Incredibly real and heartfelt and moving and sometimes hilarious.

I know many British television shows are 6, 8, or 13 episodes in general, so why was this one only four?

Also, does anybody know if there's a chance this might continue into a second series? Kind of behind on news here in America.

Apologies if this is already asked and answered.

It's a mini-series. Think of it as a very long film stretched out over four parts. It's actually quite common in UK TV, especially the fact that TIE '86 is a follow on from the original film, meaning a big 13 part TV drama just wouldn't be fitting. Next month This is England '88 hits UK screens. It's a three-part Christmas special which takes place two years after the events of '86. Should be great! Next year This is England '90 broadcasts (the last part), which will be more in the vein of '86 but with around 6 parts rather than 4. Here's the first cast shot from '88 :)

Thank you for the link, I'd been speculating for some time because Lol would be a 'single mother' that it would be because the baby Woody thought was his, turned out to be Milky's from the last series, but by the looks of it the baby isn't multi-racial, but who knows. It's odd how there's little to no publicity about TIE88 when its less than a month away, but there was LOOOOOOADS for 86. Everyone I tell about 88 says they never heard about it being in the works but are still as excited as I am. Baffled.
