Combo's future?

All in all I thought the last episode was brilliant and worked as a good companion piece with the film.

With Combo back in prison, what do people thin the future holds for him? Will he return to his destructive ways? In the film, Combo came out of prison as a hate-filled,misguided character. Tonight;s espisode was his shot at 'redemption'.

But with him back behind bars. How do we think Combo will emerge from the experience?

Hard to say really although I think we were supposed to be lead by Meadows to believe that Combo is going to strive to be a better man. The scene where the Warden asks him if he they're going to have any trouble with him and he says no seems to cement that. It was also that final shot of the look on his face which was one of a man finding some kind of solace and determination that makes me believe he is a changed man.

If this was set in America, I'd say, "what are you talking about? Combo has just being convicted of manslaughter. He'll be in there for at least 25 years." But, as this is set in England, my home country, he'll probably be out in about 5-8 years on good behaviour. *Sigh* What a beautiful country we live in...

or 3/4, as he was "saving" someone and the story combo set up implies self defence, so 3-4 years would get him out in time for This Is England '90.....

Well according to what someone has posted on this message boards, Meadows is planning a TIE1990 so it might just begin with Combo getting out of Prison.

I don't actually think he'd been convicted yet and was just on remand. If you think that those seems seemed to take place paralell to the scenes of Shaun and Smell and Lol, Trev, Woody etc, which was at the same time as the England v. Argentina match which at most would have been a week after Mick's death.

So either the final scenes were meant to be set at different times or else Compo couldn't have been convicted yet. If that's the case there's a chance he won't serve time especially if Lol, Trev and Milky testify.

Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

Indeed, the warden says to Combo`What have you been CHARGED with this time, manslaughter,Isn't it?`...

Why would you get arrested for saving a woman from a rapist? Made no sense

I worked as both a prosecutor and defense attorney for many years in various jurisdictions in the USA. I can tell you without equivocation that, (provided he had decent counsel of course) Combo would not do a day in prison. Depending on his prior record, financial situation and community ties (home ownership; flight risk; etc) he might have to sit in county lock up until trial but he'd walk on an affirmative defense of defense of other. If Lol had been his wife/fiance or even girlfriend, the DA probably wouldn't even indict him particularly in western and southern jurisdictions.

Sorry gringo but that reads as complete tosh. Combo is likely to always be a troubled man, but he certainly wasn't the same character we left at the end of the film and if they make a second series there is no reason to believe that he won't have changed some more further in the future.

What he did to Milky was wrong for sure, but, Combo's problems did not start or end with the beating of Milky.

He took the rap for Lol because he loved her, this was established in the film and his final scene with Lol.

If you thought the only thing that had changed with Combo since the film was his hair, it's a non-starter I'm afraid.

Complete tosh was probably too harsh though. Sorry about that.
