Why is Meadows ruining the TIE saga?!

The film was a masterpiece of acting, dialogue, credibility, and scripts. It was a gentle intrigue we had to follow. But in this series Meadows makes it all very dark and depressing. Has he missed the greatness of the movie because now he destroys everything by tearing the whole concept apart. Want to add that I have not seen TIE '88 yet...

What the series lacks for me is someone to identify with. Obviously in the film it's Shaun and there are even a couple of bits where you feel for Combo. I went into the series having read that it centres on Woody and Lol, so was expecting that. Lol's descent into a depression and the final episode is certainly gripping, but there are too many aimless scenes featuring general partying/shagging etc, which take the series away from the Woody/Lol/Mick thing. I understand though that it's meant to centre around the whole gang. Same here, haven't seen '88 yet.
