Names + Ages of the Characters

How old are the characters?

And what are their real names? ie. Trev, Smell, Lol (I assumed maybe Lauren?)

Thank you!

reply

I know Smell is Michelle... And Smell was 16 in the film so that would make her 20 now.

Um I'm not sure about the others I assume they're all about the same age or similar ages :)

Meggy and Banjo we don't know their names and they are in their 40's or 50's.

Combo is Andrew Gascoigne and he said he was 32 in the film and so should be about 35 here, although this seems a little confused now.

Milky's name we don't know. Woody is Richard James Woodford. Lol is Frances Lorraine Jenkins and they are all about 23 in the series.

Smell is Michelle and I'd imagine her and Harvey to be about 19/20.

Kelly is Kelly Jenkins and I'd guess she's between 17 and 20.

Gadget is Gary and is 17.

Shaun Fields is 16.

Not really after last nights episode. Combo mentioned that Mick had been abusing her all her life. He's probably about 10 years older than Woody and Lol and was rounding the years since he was 12 up very slightly in the film. That's how I see it anyway.

The rest seem about right. Harvey seems close to Gadge though so it's possible that he, Kelly and Gadget were in the same school year.

Oh, I think I heard Harvey's Dad call him David so his name is David Harvey, I guess.

Thanks for the info guys. Still wondering where the name Trev comes from!

reply

Meggy=Ronald Megford. Said by Gadget in Episode 3.

Thanks for pointing that out Ziggy as I knew it had been mentioned but i'd forgotten what it was!

And at a guess i'd say Trev's surname is Trevor but obviously I don't know...

Frankly, watchin' Donny beat Nazis to death is the closest we ever get to goin' to the movies.

reply

I forgot about Trev!!! I'd guess she's the same age as Kelly, so about 17/18.

reply

There's a bit in Episode 2, I'm not sure where they are exactly, but a voice on the tanoy says something and then Trev goes "about time" and gets up. Did they say her name? I can't even make out what is said.

Meggy is Ronald Megford, as Gadget exclaims when Winston, who looks like Meggy, catches his mum and Gary 'Gadget' at it in episode two.

reply

In the film Gadget Shaun's mum tells the gang that they're a bit old to be hanging around with him and Gadget says that he's only in the year above Shaun at school. Gadget mentions that he's been kept behind because he's "got problems" so presumably if he'd been kept behind a year he'd be 2 years older than Shaun, so 18 in the series.

Where I'm still a little bit confused is Combo and Lol's ages.

In the film he says to Shaun "20 years ago when I was your age", if Shaun is 12(?) then that would make Combo 32 (and then 3 years later in TIE86, he would be around 35).

Then when Lol and Combo are in the car and he talks about their one night together, he makes it sound like it was JUST before he went to prison for 3 years, and since Lol was 16 when it happened, that would make her about 19/20.

So, so far there is an age difference of about 12 years between Combo and Lol. So in TIE86 when Lol says Combo confronted her Dad when he was 17, that would make her 5 years old. Now obviously it's possible that her Dad had been abusing her from a VERY young age but I doubt Combo would be aware of it/hang out with a 5 year old.

I hope I'm making sense! I've confused myself a bit now :P but yeah, how does that work?

reply

Not sure if Harvey is David... I think his dad actually called him "divy boy", which is just British slang for idiot in my book?

reply

How old do you think Flip is supposed to be ?. And does anyone know how old Perry Fitzpatrick is in real life ?.

reply

In TIE'88 Woody said he was nearly 25. That matches what Lol said in the film about being 16 when Combo went inside for Woody and so 19/20 when he came out. We know that Lol, Woody and Milky are all about the same age from what was said in TIE'86 about them hanging out at school when they were 14.

That does mean that either Lol was only 5 when a 17 year old Combo tried to attack her dad for kiddy-fiddling. Or Lol got his age wrong. Or Combo was exaggerating when he said he was twelve 20 years ago in the film and he was more like 26.

reply

Note also the prison warden in '86 referring to Combo as "lad" which sort of infers he's still rather young compared to most of the established prison populace.

reply

He'd still be 29/30, so not very young. A pretty standard age for prisoners, I'd have thought. Older men often refer to younger men as "lads" even when they're in their 30's.

reply

I think Stephen Graham must have been improvising and using his real age in the scene when he tells Shaun he was 12 20 years ago. Otherwise it screws up the Combo and Lol relationship which is central to the whole TV series. If he was 32 in the film then he would have been about 29 when he had sex with Lol when she was 16, and Lol would have have been really young when her Dad beat up a 17 year old Combo.

His age is annoyingly contradictory throughout :(

reply

Agreed haha. I like to think that Combo's night of passion with Lol, and his attempt to beat up Lol's dad both happened around a similar time - age 17, and right before he got sent to prison. Making him about 20 in the film/'83, and a year older than Lol & Woody.

It's far from being set in stone, and only based on that one line from Lol about him being 17, but it feels right to me - a slightly older, but still young contemporary of the skinheads, who probably all met at school together in the late 70s.
