The Little Sister Episode Was Actually Pretty Funny

Anyone else agree?

The writing could still use some work, but I feel like this episode really shined and stood out more than any of the others. Probably because the focus was less on Ben and Kate's romance. They were there to mold the story, but a large part of it included the antics of Connie and Larry, who as we've seen are the funniest parts of the show due to Judie Greer's and Tyler Labine's excellent chemistry and comic timing.

My favorite part was Judie Greer's delivery of the booty call line: I want your booty in my bed. Get it over here before I fall asleep.

I know this show got off to a rough start (and is still a little rough), but I can definitely see some potential in it if only CBS will keep it for a while and allow it to grow. Unfortunately, the stigma of being a "HIMYM carbon copy" is already there, and the first few episodes were not strong; those few who did tune in may have already turned away.

I thought it was the "best" episode thus far, granted best means it reached "sitcom average" for me, but that's not a bad thing, compared to prior episodes it increased around 33% quality wise.

But I enjoyed this episode and it gave me a bit of hope for the future of the show.

Judy was great as always, the relationship btw her and Tyler's characters is great and the end was classic, as they actually BOTH helped each other out.

It's going to be tough for them get out of the "HIMYM carbon copy" shadow but hopefully the writers challenge themselves enough to do it!

actually the ratings are not bad. The first three episodes were about the same, and they only dropped off a little last night. It had higher ratings than the HIMYM repeat, which I think is a good sign. People who weren't already watching HIMYM tuned in for this show.

I did not know about the ratings being consistent, and even higher than HIMYM's repeat episode leading into Mad Love. That sounds like good news to me!

Also, some character development would be nice. And bring back Ben's ex who said stuff like "I'm tired of being taken for granite" and "fabric snatches." I thought she was pretty funny.

I'd definitely agree. From the pilot I so wanted to like Mad Love and have stuck with it and would agree that the rough start is starting to abate as the cast find their feet and turn their show around. The ratings may not be as high as CBS would like but they're consistent despite not having new episodes of Two and a Half Men following it.

I have said in other topics that if the show focussed more on Larry and Connie instead of Ben and Kate then it might have done better so far because Tyler Labine and Judy Greer are very much carrying the show at the moment. And both of them especially deserve a hit sitcom because they do have great chemistry and timing even though the "names" are "the guy from the American Pie films" and <janitor>"Blonde doctor"</janitor> from Scrubs.

However, although the "HIMYM carbon copy" vibe is still there, I do feel that Mad Love has lost the "Gavin and Stacey" tag it was given. So in light of yesterday's news regarding "what's going on in Two and a Half Men land", I guess the question these same CBS network execs have to ask themselves is: do they chance a new sitcom in the Fall or do they give either Mad Love or Bleep My Dad Says a second season to develop? I can't see CBS renewing both and if they had to choose, I hope they'd pick Mad Love over Bleep.

And should The Big Bang Theory move back to Mondays at 9pm next year - if Two and a Half Men does get the chop - then it would be nice for CBS to not have to break in a freshman comedy next year alongside HIMYM, Mike & Molly and TBBT. Especially if Mike & Molly lands a multi year renewal at, or before, sweeps like both HIMYM and TBBT have already done.

I could quite happily live with HIMYM/ML/TBBT/M&M on Mondays in the Fall.

I agree. Judy Greer and Tyler Labine have impressed me on this show. They really are quite funny together.

In this episode, I did like the line that Ben repeated from Larry when Kate asked him how he could let it happen, and he says When a woman wants the Larry Munch experience, there's nothing you can do to stop her (or something like that). Tyler Labine of course says it best, but for a repeated line joke, Jason Biggs did pretty well with it.

thought last episode was great too. best so far. great lines from judy and tyler at the end there.

Totally agree. i'd say it was the "best" by far, but it's still not reaching the potential i think it has. I hope they do more to distance themselves from HIMYM, and focusing on Labine & Greer could do it. I'd be more interested in watching their characters fall into a caring relationship than Chalke & Biggs. Seems like this is how most people feel. I wonder if CBS and the writers know it.

i think what's gonna happen now is that they're gonna stop focusing on the romance of Ben and Kate...that was the plot for the first few episodes to get the show going...now that that's out of the way it's probably gonna start focusing on the whole group

Eeek. I disagree. It was boring and predictable. I knew exactly where it was going when Stelliot started to lament her "sweet and innocent" younger sis.

Got to this episode, and now I have some genuine hope for the show. Yes, the storyline on the whole was somewhat cliché, but delivery was very good. "Larry Munch experience", hilarious.
