How has Greek been cancelled compared to this...

Greek is hilarious with a dedicated fanbase, yet it got cancelled when the only reason the ratings weren't great is down too poor advertising. So why has Glory Daze even been made? It's no where near as funny and if Greek couldn't even do great then how did any producers expect this to go well.

don't worry, tbs cancelled this show.

reply

They did?! Thank God. It's just been advertised in the UK and on a far better channel than Greek was on.

I'm pretty sure Greek made it to season 4 and played out in real time as 4 years in college. Seems pretty accurate.

I'm pretty sure they all weren't one age. Plus one season did not equal one year at college.

You don't have a remote?

What does that have to do with anything?

I've been wondering why E4 (UK channel) would promote a show which has just got cancelled. I understand they may have picked up the rights before they knew it would be cancelled but that doesn't explain the constant promotion I've seen for this show. You'd think this was the new Glee.

reply

It should, but the world doesn't work like that. Look at the biggest and longest running TV shows that have been around, now look at the amount of advertising they had and from that the amount of viewers they got. Yes, it has to do with if the show's good, otherwise people would tune into the first episode an be done, a bit like Glory Daze and Skins (US) among other things.
Hearsay can only go so far. When you explain Greek or Glory Daze they both sound like stupid college TV shows. Nothing is really that appealing to either when you're attempting to explain what it is.

Okay I can't say what it was like in the US but in the UK I only ever remember seeing Greek being advertised once after I just caught a bit. Greek is fantastic and is a comedy drama which when I've shown my friends they enjoy it however it was shown on BBC three and never hardly mentioned, have never seen it on UK tv since the first season so have had to watch online which does seem to have a ratings base on sidereel. . However compared to Glory Daze which has had a silly amount of adverts recently it looks like E4 is heading for a summer of crappy tv after skins and misfits in the winter. I've heard people talk about it and its created a bit more of a buzz. The long winded argument Greek maybe would have been served better coverage, maybe would have worked better on e4 and in such had a recognized demand over here atleast.

reply

Yeah, I agree completely. I live in the UK but I've lived partially in Canada when Greek's been aired and saw barely any adverts for it there either. It's just really upsetting because it probably would be a big hit with the right promotion. It has the same sort of humour as How I Met Your Mother and really loveable characters (Beaver & Cappie), so I think it definitely would have been well received had it been given the chance.

US shows don't get cancelled based on international ratings (its based on advertising in the states). The lack of advertising for it in the UK had absolutely nothing to do with it being ended. And keep in mind the show was given a season to wrap things up, that hardly ever happens in the US.

Greek wrapped things up anyway, and they did it extremely well too (if you haven't seen it yet, it leaves you wishing you could see more of how their lives turn out but does an excellent job of ending the show).

Yeah I agree it has had a decent run, but they've only been given 10 episodes for the last season and the stories are still progressed like they would do with a much longer season so I think it's going to be like Lost and the writers will rush everything. I guess we'll see tomorrow night.

I've seen one episode of Glory Daze and I don't know... the humour just wasn't there for me and a few characters seemed to be eerily similar to some from Greek, but I suppose that's the typical college student.

If I'm going to sign a petition to bring back any show it'll be for Greek.

What I love about e4 is that it doesn't care much about ratings and it follows the cults. As for Glory Daze - well i am a little unhappy that they cut short how i met your mother so they can show this and well i feel obliged to watch it because thursdays were my fave on e4.So i'm still on the fence with this

when did he, when did he, when did he...

reply

I was also pissed off when How I met your mother was pulled to make room for what I thought would be a Greek rip off but I actualy really enjoyed it (although I hate unresolved endings) and HIMYM will be back soon.

I agree that Greek was the superior show, but you're comparing apples and oranges. Greek was a dramedy and Glory Daze a comedy. Both shows hit the nail on the head for what they were: Greek going through college and the fraternity system as well as Greek life from freshman year on; Glory Daze pledging a fraternity freshman year in the 1980s.

Personally I liked both because I was in college in the 1980s and member of a fraternity since freshman year.
