Excuses, excuses....

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge DePalma fan and I was fascinated by this documentary (interview?)- but I began to grow weary of the constant excuse making (both overt: Cliff Robertson was the weakness of Obsession, and between the lines: There was no reason to actually have Caine in drag for DTK, I called Spielberg and Lucas about Costner and they assured me Kevin could carry the picture)that caused him to come off as somewhat insecure about his work. I'm also not a big fan of explaining your place in cinematic history (I'm the only one who picked up Hitchcock's visual mantle- he was talking about in the U.S., right?) I recommend this film, but I think I learned a lot more about DePalma than I did about his films.
