The Most Annoying Person

The principle of the school was a complete idiot. Condescending, arrogant, oblivious. She had no idea. The worst scene for me was when she ended up telling off the kid who was being bullied and saying to him 'you are just like him by not shaking is hand'. Can't describe how angry it made me, what was she hoping to achieve? Did she really believe that sorted out the issue or that was the end of her responsibility just to get the kids to shake hands. She has a much bigger role to play and there are hundreds of things she could have done. Such a shame to see she actually doesn't care and hides behind the excuse 'I cant change a child's behaviour'. She had the power to change both victim and attackers behaviour, but saw it as too much of a hard task.

If this was one of my kids I would be telling them to get physical. Its what I did in school when I got picked on, if someone hits you or threatens you then you have to stand up for yourself. If you allow yourself to be picked on then people will continue to do it. Unfortunately that is how it works, for guys anyway. You don't really need to hit anyone, just get very loud, very angry and 90% of people will leave you alone. The other 10% will probably hit you, but you have to hit back. Never hit first was what I was taught, but as soon as someone hurts you physically you can defend yourself. These kids need to be taught how to deal with these situations a mixture of how to verbally defend yourself and physically defend yourself.

I completely agree that other students should help, but you cannot rely on other people to always be there to back you up.

Very good documentary.

^The assistant principal you are describing was the person I most disliked in this documentary. You describe well the appalling scene where she wanted the kid to shake the hand of the guy who has been terrorizing him. She then made the bullied kid feel guilty for not shaking the other kid's hand.

The worst scene though for me was when she had Alex's family in her office. I almost gagged when she told them she had ridden the bus route in question and the kids "were as good as gold". Well, duh, if the principal is riding with them then the kids are going to behave. It's like the family was on trial for having a kid that is being abused at school. And, then, to top it all off, she shows them a photo of her grandchildren! Clueless ass of a woman.

Absolutely. For a supposedly intelligent women, this Assistant Principal sure did some dumb things and that quote was the pinnacle of them.

reply

Yes! Completely agree. And when the assistant principal was arguing with Alex about whether or not she had done anything. Like come on. "Does he sit on your head anymore?" Are you dumb? Are you playing dumb. Stupid principal.

My dogs went crazy because I actually yelled at the TV during this scene. What a useless assistant principal.

reply

I just wanted to yell at her "do your job!"

This was a good documentary!! I mean the lady was just useless & clueless!! She needed to be fired

reply

Totally agree. You'd think at least she would try to appear like a decent human being if only for the sake of the camera! I really hope someone can confirm that she is no longer working in an environment where she is responsible for the welfare of others, especially children. She could swap jobs with one of the janitors, maybe.

That blonde vice-principal annoyed the hell out of me, even as I could sympathize with the difficulty of her job. She did, truly, seem clueless, and just not very bright, certainly not sharp, not on the ball, so I felt sorry for her, along with feeling VERY pissed off at her. Then, there was the dark-haired asst. principal they showed talking to a bunch of kids one by one, including Alex. Also maddeningly clueless and ineffectual. And both of them (as well as some others shown) constantly seeming to blame the victimized/bullied kids, or to put all the responsibility of their situation on them. I'm not saying they can't take responsibility and power, as best as they're able, but the basic fact of their situation is not of their own making, and, for most, not something they can successfully resolve by themselves.

Multiplex: 100+ shows a day, NONE worth watching. John Sayles' latest: NO distribution. SAD.

I'm watching this and the blonde vice principal just made me mad. Saying she ride that bus and those kids are good as gold made me want to punch her through my tv. I live 99 miles from where Alex and his family live and I've experienced it with two of my three children and the school does NOTHING to protect the victim. My daughter was being bullied to the point of attempting suicide three times. I informed the school they did nothing, when her best friend at the time then threatened to beat up the girls that were doing the bullying then the school stepped in.

My youngest son has gone through it and when reported to the school they "investigated" and said that it didn't meet the standards by law for bullying. I told my son ffrom now on to fight back and I will defend him. When he did he was suspended and investigated for bullying because according to the school his name came up three times. I told them that I could tell them all three times and he was the victim in each one.

I don't condone fighting for my kids but at this point I'm done and I will back my kids up 100% for standing up for themselves.

The administrators at Alex's school are/were pathetic.
