Talk about...

mixed feelings having just watched this film. I can not deny I'm disappointed, perhaps because, although I knew (from the cover) there would be an overlay of dark humour, I thought it would still be much more believable than what it was. And I am sorry, but the level of disrespect on the part of portrayed westerners towards Afghan people as far as this film depicts was fairly deplorable, not to mention, pretty unbelievable.
I had to keep telling myself it was not very nice of me to keep hoping the character of 'Tom', the lead's 'best buddy pal' who kept nearly getting everyone killed through a combination of dishonesty, selfishness and sheer stupidity, would just hurry up and be killed off. That character irritated the crap out of me. And blondie Latvia woman with the OTT accent annoyed me too with the ridiculous story about her 'revenge' on 'Turbans' was to wear a burka with 'no panties underneath', as though this was some great feat of cultural supremacy or salute to the expression of freedom for women. And this story is told with at least two Afghan men present, like what ever they may think didn't matter, in their *own lands*.

The end felt rushed, too rushed to be effective as the weird twist it seemed to be aiming for to take away any kind of message from about the senselessness of war, Afghanistan or anything else. It just felt silly and disjointed and like the writers were not really sure of what they wanted to achieve there.

The one positive thing I can say, is that, a line about 'Wannabans' and the entire scene around that, got a really good laugh from me.
