Why so tropical?

It isn't just this particular film. But why is it that all of these "MEGA" monster movies start out in tropical zones? As someone who lives in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, N. California), I'd like to see MY OWN area represented (snicker). If the filmmakers of these MEGA films are reading this, consider the possibilities. For example:

MEGA OWL VS. THE GIANT SLUG

Synopsis - An unemployed logger, put out of work because of environmentalists trying to protect the Northern Spotted Owl habitat, decides to exact revenge. Together with a mad-scientist friend, they use growth hormones to genetically engineer a new creation - a 300 foot long slug with an appetite for old-growth timber (and anything living in that habitat).

As the old-growth timber and spotted owls begin to disappear, environmentalists investigate. And taking a sample of slime from the giant slug's path, they discover the growth-hormone secret to its creation. So, to save the old-growth forests, the environmentalists hire scientists to genetically engineer a 300 foot tall spotted owl with an appetite for slugs.

Of course, to be politically correct, the owl would have to win.

P.S. They could even have a sequel teaser near the end ... showing that hunting slugs wasn't the ONLY thing the mega owl did ... a few huge eggs hatching, each with its own baby mega owl inside. And with all the slugs gone from the forest, the mega owls seek out a new food source --- people. The sequel title:

INVASION OF THE MEGA OWLS (set in Portland, Seattle, etc.)

Actually, I think it was supposed to be Louisiana but the whole set looks like some Mexican jungle.

It is the Everglades. Louisiana swamps look nothing like that.

Because California is full of democrats and everyone knows as soon as a monster eats one they'd die. A monster, and come to think about it, a movie goer, will swallow almost anything, but that. LOL

Speaking of politics, I've always wondered why a conservative movie financier hasn't created a conservative version of "A Christmas Carol." The way the movie is now, Ebenezer Scrooge is a conservative beset by all kinds of liberals who expect him to be an "easy touch" during the holiday season. And when he demonstrates his true feelings on the matter, he's visited by his former partner's ghost - who in death has become a liberal (sigh). And then, the partner's ghost sends 3 more liberal ghosts to see him during the night ... completing the brainwashing started by the partner and leaving Scrooge as a liberal himself.

How about a film that picks up where "A Christmas Carol" left off? Bob Crachit could be visited by 3 conservative ghosts. The next morning, he arrives at work on time ... but only to tell Scrooge what he can do with his job (grin). Then, he goes into business for himself. And because of his tenacity in business and hard work, he quickly puts Scrooge out of business and makes so much money he can send Tiny Tim to the best doctors. Tim recovers and goes into partnership with his father. And together, they put liberal businessmen out of business right and left until no competitors remain.

Crocs, gators, giant snakes... tropical climates are ideal locations for them to thrive so those climates are supposed to be the most believable for them to grow that much. Other animals, especially the smaller ones they feed on (rabbits, nutria, etc) also thrive in those climates. Food sources are plentiful from the bottom up, starting with insects. This was supposed to be the Everglades, and pythons are becoming a serious problem there. The treehuggers trying to save the pythons was a little over-the-top... pythons are wreaking havoc on the Everglades ecosystem and I don't know any real environmentalist who would try to preserve a non-native species that is causing a serious problem.
