Poor man's Curb Your Enthusiasm

This movie has its moments. But the concept is so close to Larry David's show that you can't help but make the comparison. And Klovn is far more contrived and sophomoric, far less intelligent and not nearly as funny as Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I disagree

This could be my chance to bond and become a valued member of the family

I disagree.

>I disagree.

Wow!

With arguments like that...

reply

Well, saying that it's "contrived and sophomoric, far less intelligent and not nearly as funny as curb" isn't an argument either - it's just stating an opinion. Arguing would be explaining why you would think that.

Anyway, I also disagree with the opinion in the first post.

suprising its got such a poor rating. In scandinavian country´s the show is very popular and i just came from the movie in iceland and literally the whole movie theater was screaming with laughter! never heard or seen anything like it! one of the funnyest movies ever!

reply

I had the same experience in Denmark. You can't take the imdb rating seriously, especially when so few have voted.

Easily one of my best cinema experiences.

reply

7.3 is actually a high rating for a comedy. The Pink Panther Strikes back's rating is 7.1, Borat is at 7.4, Something about Mary 7.2. Comedies just get lower ratings that is all. I don't think there is a single straight up comedy on the IMDB 250. I guess it's because of the varied tastes in comedy people have. No comedy can satisfy everybody.

reply

I'm danish and I laughed a lot too, but really, it's just not that great in my opinion.

reply

Very popular in Scandinavia? I'm from Norway and I've never heard of it.

reply

Ok, well, I'm also from Norway and I've heard about the movie and the TV show... It's not been that well hidden.

U jelly?

reply

lol, you're from Norway and have never heard of it and yet you are on Klovn: The Movie's board?

Try again idiot...

reply

Big, anonymous guy calling others "idiot".
You fail at life.

...just sayin'...

reply

Please explain how you can fail at life when you call other people idiot's while you are anonymous....? Im curious...

For the record i would have said the same thing if i knew him/her...?

And if anybody expect me to believe that he/her has never heard of a movie which board they are on, they must be idiot's.... I think so in real life, i would say that to strangers and to friends irl, and i will say it here.... Because it's idiotic!!

reply

Then you live under a rock. I'm from Norway too and it runs on the TV all the time (TV2 Zebra atm).

And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU...WILL...ATONE!

reply

Then why are you here???? Dumme norsmand altså

I loved Casper and Frank (and many more) in Mandrilaftalen, but Klovn was never really THAT fun. It seemed forced and cringeworthy. Like they tried to make it "real", only it didn't seem real at all.

The movie was much like a longer episode of the TV-show. Okay, but quickly forgotten.

reply

Oh boy is it tiring hearing that comparison over and over.

No, Klovn is not a "poor man's CYE", the concept may have inspired them but since then the show has taken its own direction and has, at least in my opinion (which is just as valid as yours), far surpassed CYE.
I've just returned from the cinema and to be honest I didn't like the movie as much as I liked the show, but still, it was pretty damn funny and definitely a great experience.

reply

"far surpassed CYE"

Seriously, you're an idiot. I like Klovn but even the main theme of the movie was stolen from Curb Your Enthusiasm. There was an episode where Larry David noticed a boy had a larger than normal penis at a pool party and the episode revolved around the awkwardness of congratulating a father on his boy's penis LOL. Klovn just reversed it but it is clearly borrowed from Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The beauty of CYE is that Larry David deals with everyday problems and highlights just how ridiculous it can be. Klovn is more outrageous and leaves the realms of reality to gain laughs. For example, who is going to cum on their wife's neck and breasts just because your friends tell you to do so? Yes, the whole discussion was hilarious but you can't compare this to CYE, it is more like it's always sunny in philadelphia.

CYE is far superior to Klovn but I like both of them.

reply

I love Curb, and have watched it all. But honestly I believe Clown does it even better then Curb. Both are great though

reply

Agreed.

reply

funniest movie i've ever seen. different enough than curb bc frank and casper are basically playing themselves.

reply

Totally. The original TV series was a blatant CYE knock-off. Some episodes ripped off music and plots from episodes of Curb FCOL!

I agree the movie has its moments, though.

CYE undoubtedly inspired Klown, and bits of storylines from Larry David's masterpiece sitcom does occur in some episodes of the series, and the creators of Klown doesn't deny it.

No , they never admitted to that. They deny stealing the concept and blatantly ripping it off, they're sticking to "We are only inspired by Curb Your Enthusiasm"

If you watch the end credits to an episode, it says "Following the idea of Casper Christens & Frank Hvam"
Credit to Curb Y. E. is never given.

reply

Neither of th series are laughing-out-loud funny to me, but CYE seems pretty harmless compared to Klovn. Klovns goal is to provoke its viewers as well as amuse them by taking the many akward situations to the extreme. This may not be CYEs concept at all, but compared to Klovn (and that's what we do here) it just seems a lot less ballsy. Sure, you can call that being more "intellectual", but still.

"Hail to the king, baby" :OD
