Good idea, bad execution. This script needed some real budget!

The cast works pretty well BUT for a movie like this you need to give something cool to viewers to look at instead of going the pretentious "Woody Allen" garbage style rule. Pretentious garbage is still pretentious.
Fooling people without spending money to produce a movie it's a clear fraud.

This movie had potential but director and crew don't deserve people money.
I really hope they will sell the rights to some studios and real producers able to remake this movie properly.

This movie needed being like Coneheads or Paul. With proper budget, proper CGI and action scenes.

So....you just didn't give a *beep* about the movie you saw? You saw a title and a poster and decided what the movie was.

That's a bummer.

If there's anyone reading this thread, they should know how *beep* lovely and heartwarming this strange movie is. It's NOT a big budget alien film. It's not a small budget alien film. It's a theatrical play that was filmed with cameras. And it's pretty great.

Oh right, typical American review, let's remake this movie, there's no CGI, no aliens blowing *beep* up, the Marines aren't there to kick alien ass, and on top of it all, it's not filmed in America... blah blah blah...

That's not fair. The movie is called "Extraterrestrial" and has an alien space ship in it, yet the aliens and the space ship have almost no effect on the story. The ship just sits there and does nothing. The aliens never show themselves. The characters COMPLETELY IGNORE the space ship for the last 2/3rds of the movie.

I am an American and no I did not want or expect this to be like Battle Los Angeles or Independence Day, but I was expecting it to be an new and interesting take on an alien invasion movie and it wasn't. I didn't hate it but I felt a huge opportunity had been wasted.

you do know thats what sci-fi is, and always has been? its merely a modern visual and plot aid to explore human emotions...star wars is a love story & good vs evil, the terminator was essentially star crossed lovers in kyle reese and sarah connor, wall-e and eve etc etc...

of course there are those who only see the surface veneer of hi-tech and big budget sci fi flicks and take them as just that, and thats fine, but dont try and claim that reasoning as your own and the only one, others are delivered the nuances of human intricacies through such vehicles

Completely different. Not only were those better movies, but they MAINTAINED the sci-fi element throughout the entire story.

Yes, I get that (good) sci-fi can be used to explore the human condition, but this film doesn't. The sci-fi element in this film is unnecessary and isn't explored the way it could have or should have been. Watch The Quiet Earth. That's a better version of this kind of film.

I just felt a little cheated. It would be like watching a movie called "Ghost House" and there are no ghosts, or people just talk about ghosts, or the ghost just hangs out in the background and goes away after 30 minutes and never has any real effect on the plot.

What are you talking about. The presence of the alien spacecraft is essential for the story to happen. Its just that the writer did not want to explore the story of the alien invasion. Many films have already done that. Instead the writer wanted to tell a different story about the effect of the UFO on some unimportant characters in the grand scale of things.

I appreciate that the film is not for you and I understand why some people might not like it. But the sci-fi elements are essential for the story to unfold as it does.

I realize it's been a while since I've seen this but the alien spaceship could have literally been almost anything else. It could have been a giant floating statue or a huge bagel or something.

But my main complaint about the movie has more to do with false advertising. The title and the cover suggests it's a story about aliens and it's not and that bummed me out because I haven't seen too many Spanish films featuring aliens.

It would be like if the movie Snakes on a Plane only showed the actual plane with snakes from a distance and the entire film was about people discussing this barely scene plane with snakes on it without actually being on the plane or seeing the snakes.

I didn't hate the movie but I was expecting one kind of movie and got a (let's face it) less interesting movie instead.

The sci-fi premise here is brilliant and essential.

Aliens invade. There are many, many versions of that story where the alien ships simply appear above major cities and do, for a while, nothing ... because all of those stories are ripping off Arthur C. Clarke's classic Childhood's End.

That raises the question: how does the mere mysterious presence of the alien ships effect people's behavior, in the days (maybe a week or so) before their purpose is revealed?

Well, this is a hilarious take on that. In that period where the alien purposes and methodology remain unknown, paranoia blooms. Without the alien ship, there is no suspicion (or feigned suspicion) among the characters that one of them may be an alien in disguise, and that drives the entire plot. At no point does that become unimportant. Sure, the couple in a one-night stand might make up some crazy lies to tell the cheated-on boyfriend, but they wouldn't remotely resemble these lies, all of which intimately involve the alien invasion. And they wouldn't be anywhere as funny.

Is a low budget movie, is not the first one. A lot of low budget movies are part of history and are stories. You know... movies... telling stories, as it always has been. An action sequence is not a movie, but it could be a chapter from "cops".

You know what you like, don't *beep* the rest of the world, you have plenty of blockbusters to choose from. Movies are missing in the screens, not garbage that makes beep beep beep like videogames.

...and I didn't like Vigalondo's movie (I love Timecrimes), but I can't be on your side because of your argue. Sounds like little child.

reply

See to me the problem isn't the budget - there have been plenty of well done low budget flicks taking place in limited locations. But they all had one thing in common: GOOD WRITING! This doesn't contain that unfortunately.

It has lots of talking but nothing interesting is being said. Too bad to, since I loved timecrimes...

"dude i dont care i just love this movie you guys have a realy taste in movies what wrong with you"

OK, so your chief complaint about this movie is that it too closely resembles Woody Allen, who is "pretentious garbage"? That pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

Look, I'm sorry that you saw this based on its title alone. But anyone with taste so narrow that they have that opinion of Woody Allen's films has an obligation to themselves to check out a movie further beforehand. I mean, the trailer would have scared you off.
