Not another Babel!

When I saw the poster for a movie called 360 starring Jude Law and Anthony Hopkins, I thought it should be a really interesting. Then I found out it was another damn big, interlocking "Crash" wannabe drama about a whole selection of actors whose stories are vaguely related. No one's story will be given enough time to actually develop and the movie will play like a series of under developed, potentially interesting ideas.

This is lazy writing, poor filmmaking, and the sort of movie that I'd prefer just wasn't made anymore.

What you're referring to here as 'lazy writing' is known in literature as the 'polyphonic spree' and it's pretty hard to do successfully. Jennifer Egan's 'A Visit From the Goon Squad' won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, using exactly this technique. So, instead of expecting movie-length character arcs, what we get is a set of intertwined short stories.

This film has more in common with Richard Linklater's 'Slacker', where the camera is 'handed' from one character to the next, than the interminable 'Crash'.

And you say you don't want these movies made anymore? You arrogant twerp. In future, do your research first and then don't go and see them.

This is definitely a better film than Babel, in my view. It seems to cover more ground in less time.

Babel and Crash actually had endings, most of them happy, this film just had continuities. The dad was still searching, the brazillian girl went back home, the sex attacker went his way, the guy who had an affair with Rachel Weisz was alone, the muslim doctor and his married ex assistant went their own ways. Only Rachel and Jude and the russian driver and his new friend had a somewhat happy ending.

First, to establish that I have horrible taste, I loved Babel and "gonged" Crash. I loved this, but not as much as I did Babel.
Now, my point is I'd argue there was one other very happy ending. The sister of the Russian driver's new friend, the sex professional who goes by Blanka, after her rough treatment from her customer, the Russian driver's most unpleasant boss, she inadvertently receives an unexpectedly large "tip" from him and in the same delightful scene learns her exploitive boss has, um, retired; all in all, her best and final day in that job. 😄
