I Hate This Movie and I'm Starting to Hate Hollywood

Soulless, pandering, unoriginal, insulting to fans of the franchises that it exploits

I like how the greedy corporate guy is portrayed as the bad guy, when films like these are created by exactly those types of people

99% of the games/movies/shows/etc. aren't explored in any depth. If I wanted to see Jason I'd watch Friday the 13th. If I wanted to see Goro I'd play Mortal Kombat. Just SEEING them doesn't conjure up any of the magic that made these characters memorable. All of these characters are just put there for an endless series of "oh look, it's X! oh, look it's Y! oh, look it's Z! this movie is so much fun!" moments

the story itself is boring and totally unoriginal. basically a Star Wars/Hunger Games storyline revolving around a rebellion by a small group of good guys against an evil empire. evil corporation in this case, led by a one dimensional devious villain. a kid who goes through hero's journey. a love interest who the protagonist becomes obsessed with after knowing for only a few days. a bunch of generic side characters who add very little to the story

this geek chic trend has reached critical mass with this film. it's commercialization of stuff that was already commercial to begin with. it's an insult, disguised as a love letter, to pop culture

reply

Yeah dude, shit on the one Blockbuster this year that had a heart and ignore things such as Black Panther, there you go buddy.

reply

This movie didn't have a heart. Black Panther was not great but it was definitely better than this movie

I just think the movie was a gross prostitution of pop culture and fanboyism. As if anyone who is a fan of a popular franchise is just a mindless idiot who's brain will light up at seeing a 3 second cameo of a character that they like

Like one professional critic said, the irony of using the Iron Giant as a weapon likely never occurred to Spielberg and co. The Iron Giant was kind and peaceful

reply

Black panther wasn't anything more special than any of the other Marvel films, and not even close to the best of them. Having said that, it's better than this, but the OP isn't wrong in his assessment of today's Hollywood.

reply

No offense, but I laughed so hard at the idea of this movie having any kind of heart when it's too busy poking the audience and asking, "Hey, hey, hey! REMEMBER THAT? HUH? REMEMBER WHEN THE '80S WERE COOL? HUH? HUH?"

reply

Okay.

reply

Cyberbob I agree with everything you posted, only...you're starting only now to hate hollywood?
They've been making soulless uninspired crap for the last 20 years!
Better late than never...

reply

True. But I think Hollywood has been capitalizing on nostalgia more aggressively the last few years

reply

What about the wedding singer and such "80 retro" crap? That was 20 years ago, and you could already see the soulless, pandering, unoriginal, insulting to fans of the era that it exploits. It's all about taking some fuckin a-ha song and thinking "instant memory".
As if everybody has alzheimer and forgot about that stuff, thank god for hollywood shit producers to remind us!

reply

Agreed. Simply hollow nostalgia mining.

reply

Might want to blame the book as well. The movie was pretty faithful to it — but more based on 1980s pop culture, a lot of them super obscure only a mega nerd would have remembered. The movie however used anything it could get rights to that it could play fan service to, i.e. Master Chief from Halo.

reply

Sorry sweaty, but we prefer CINEMA

reply

LMAO..CYBERBOB PREFERS CINEMA...GOOD CHOICE.

reply

Blockbusters are just as Cinema as the Oscar Fare Film is Film

reply

Yeah Kowalski, some of us are civilized humans! We like to have a spot of tea with our pinkies extended while we enjoy our cinema. Not that a plebian like you would understand, but not everyone considers pigs making love in the mud to be highbrow entertainment. Why, I surmise that you don't even retain a butler or any house servants!

reply

LMAO..

I was pondering how to respond as i read down the posts.

I was gonna go with:
"what load of whiny bitches looking for something to moan about"

Most movies are made by a pack of middle eastern sexist, bigoted, rapist, dudes who work for very rich corporations. Part of being good at that is acting like you aren't, so every movie is "feminist" and corporate guys are "bad" and so forth.

I've have worked with pedos and their cover is typically to see like a nice "family man" to some single mom, then they go in for the kill on the kids. It's the same with Hollywood, they try to portray what they aren't to maintain cover.

Imagine if they made movies that reflected their own mindset. I just from that we know, drugs, massive cynical attitudes, sometimes semi-rape to cast girls, dudes getting blowjobs from heterosexuals to get parts, women giving their kids for sex to directors so the kid can get a part, and more. All of those examples come from real stories. Imagine that is an average movie about life.

By middle eastern you mean Jewish. Have a back bone and say what you mean.
