shareA quicker but more sincerely positive and unbitchy review: it ruled. Won’t be swayed by the negative reviewers who all appear to have the same complaints about it.
RPO... it’s just a pure cinematic spectacle with downright stunning visuals and a fabulous cast. Also, contrary to what the “lacks substance” critics say, it did have heart as well as charm for my money.
My review:
I thought it was a well crafted, ambitious multi layered film with a lot to admire. It felt retro but also futuristic and timely too. I liked that it celebrated imagination and pop culture, but also encouraged human connections and not neglecting the real world. It was a fun movie with something worthwhile to say. I do think it was a little overlong though and not all sequences worked as well as they could have. I would still recommend the film and would rate Ready Player One a virtual 8/10.
