What an utter mess!

The film starts with 20 minutes of exposition. It's just voice-over explaining one thing after the other, and it goes on and on and on. When I saw it, several people in the cinema actually said out loud: "When is this damn thing gonna start?"

Then follows a politicized mess of a screenplay, laden with a whole bunch of nonsensical McGuffins. I'd also say that the characters were all terrible, except for the fact that they weren't as much actual characters, as they were simply diversity check-boxes put there for the sake of appearances. There's a black lesbian, two Asian dudes, and oh so many frigging "strong female characters"! Every single woman is tough and cool and smart and strong and so perfect that there’s no room for anyone to grow, and no reason why you should care about what happens to anyone! Even the one bad woman (the villain's henchwoman) turns out to be kinda good in the end! WTF? It's like the screenwriter never understood that what makes a character interesting is not their perfect abilities, but their inadequacies! When you just have a bunch of perfect characters walking around, it becomes booooooooring.

And the 1 hour long action scene towards the end is nothing but colors flying across the screen. We've been given absolutely no reason why we should care about what happens to anyone, so the prolonged final fight turned into an endurance test.

BAH!

Well that doesn't sound so bad. My favorite is bacon, egg and cheese McGuffins!

I just explained what is wrong with diversity and "strong female characters". That's pretty much all my post was about.

Yeah, sure. I'm jealous. That must be it! :P

I agree with the op, I must add to the mess the horrible token nostalgia elements taken from some "I love the '80s" show, removing all the subtext and commentary.

Characters were fine. Female lead was not perfect in reality, though her facial birth mark proved nothing to dissuade his attraction/love for her.
Eom

Ps:I liked the Vin Diesel/Black lesbian!! Haha!!

>There's a black lesbian

There was? I dont remmeber one.

>two Asian dudes

Uh, im pretty sure there were more than two in the movie mate.

>and oh so many frigging "strong female characters"!

Except the main female character was not strong. She was insecure, got captured and got tables turned on her on more than one occasion. In fact the other characters have saved her more times than the other way around.

>Even the one bad woman (the villain's henchwoman) turns out to be kinda good in the end!

Uh, no she doesnt. She tried to shoot them and they kicked her out of the car, then she got arrested. Did you even watch the movie?

>It's like the screenwriter never understood that what makes a character interesting is not their perfect abilities, but their inadequacies!

None of the main characters were perfect. Well perhaps except the Curator.

reply

Shhhhh, remember people were not as woke 4 years ago. He'd be arrested if he said this now.

here we go ...
butthurt whiteboy alert

diversity , in a worldwide rpg game! the horror!

reply

And here we see the deluded race card holder, screeching at someone for their opinion, but rather than attack the opinion, call out the 'race' of the person they have in their sight.

It's not like the guy said something bad about the characters, he just noticed it. You OTOH, call him a 'butthurt whiteboy'.

In context, this says much more about you. but then, in the current climate, I guess you have the ball now, it's your game.

reply

I'm attacking the posters opinion that having
"A black lesbian, two Asian dudes, and oh so many frigging "strong female characters"
is a bad thing .

I have gathered from the racist msogynistic post , that he's white, male and upset at seeing these characters..
hence the term "butthurt whiteboy"

reply

Fair enough, but they are being thrown in our faces at every turn... black santa, anyone?

gotta expect some sort of noise...

reply

Dude you should have just watched the youtube trailer. You know, then you could have said "I think I just saw the entire movie in the trailer." and it would have saved you soooo much time and effort.

You could have written a post here, twice as long, about how trailers give away the entire movie, instead. whew!
