One of the most enjoyable films ive seen in a while

Just saw it on a long haul flight - totally agree.

There’s been plenty of greatly enjoyable films in recent times for my taste. But yes, Ready Player One is a pure joy. A visual spectacle with heart and it’s a damn fun ride. One of my top films of 2018 and one of my favorites from Spielberg, period.

My family had a great time watching it on vacation this past summer :D. We now have it on DVD. We're all from the 80s and love sci-fi, so this film really covered areas we liked.

I'm with you on that. It was one of those movies that I went into thinking it would be the usual fare geared toward teens and trying to be too hip, but they surprised me and I really enjoyed this flick.

I just watched it, and came here to post that it’s the first Spielberg movie I’ve wanted to watch in a very long time, and that I really enjoyed it. Imagine my happy surprise that you all had created the ideal place to make my statement!

Is it a great film? No. Does it aspire to be? Also, no. Does it have elements of formula and manipulation? Yes. Does any of that matter? Not at all. The casting is on the money, the production values are beyond first class, the respect for the cultural allusions is palpable, and the joy Spielberg et al. had in its making is tantamount to overwhelming.

The one sad, and troubling note, comes very near the beginning, when Wade tells us that “people stopped trying to fix things.” They retreated into fantasy. When a person’s life has too much stress, it’s a scientific truth that s/he gives up. I shudder to imagine a humanity that has given up. The ending offers a ray of hope, for The Oasis is now closed two days a week, by enlightened decision of the High Five.We need more reality; but we also need more social and economic hope to move us to fix things.

Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it. I was really bored by it. Anyway I'm glad that you like it.

It's certainly the best from Spielberg since Minority Report IMO.
