Someone broke into the car, off-screen. It was referenced later when Kelli was talking to a friend, speculating it might have been the guy from the bar who asked for money.

I assumed it was her husband´s mistress out of jealousy for her coming back to town that´s why she went to her work to buy a new window from her.
