*Spoilers* What does everyone else think about...

the situation with the other woman? At the screening I attended last night, someone mentioned that the movie could have been just as effective without introducing Mike's affair.

Frankly, I think she was right. I don't think they needed that element to get Kelli's disconnect from her family across to the audience. I think it would have been a tighter, more focused movie if they had left that out. She and Mike could have been fighting about her drinking and neglecting the kids, and that would have been enough for him to leave her anyway.

I think it was important to show Mike in a relationship with another woman. If they'd left it out, many sexual questions regarding the relationship between the couple couldn't have asked.

Take the first kiss at the airport or (probably) the first sex after he fixes the water in the bathroom - he knows, Kelli has no clue about another woman. And she isn't worried about their relationship until she met her in the bar. Well, for me it was interesting how Mike would deal with two women in a small town. Was their any chance for Kelly to go back to him?

And after Kelli quits her job and they talk about it in the garden, Mike is the stupid guy who asks (personally) about other men when she was far away. Really, why is that important for him when he sleeps with another woman already? Can Kelli trust him in their partnership ever again?

It's sad, but I think he made the decision for another woman before Kelli returned. I think he needed someone at home - as a wife, a good mother for the children, nothing else. But she wanted a lot more from a relationship when she returned; it was too stupid to sit on the couch and watch tv (such a good scene with great face expression).

So, for me Mike's affair was very important for the story. The movie was quite good, very good acting. I thought a lot about it.

For relaxing times, you know.

Good points. And definitely a thought-provoking movie! I hope more people get to see it!

I don´t think she had a drinking problem but she was off, neglecting everything. I take it as depression. It´s very common that soldiers get cheated on while they´re away.
