Elise and Dan might be related.

Regarding the deviled eggs, Dan got the recipe from his grandmother and Elise's mother says that his eggs were just like the ones her mother used to make. Could be a coincidence or Elise's grandmother is also Dan's grandmother, making them cousins.

Dan, being the little ball of fury that he is, might be a black sheep of the family and they tend to ignore him.

I'm not saying this for sure, I'm just saying it's possible.
