Underrated and underappreciated

This movie was probably the best film in 2011. Great performances from Shannon and Chastain. How were they overlooked by the Academy Awards?

I agree. My dad and I went to see this in he theaters and we were completely blown away, hahaha, sorry no pun intended even if it is kind of fitting. The second and third dream sequences are two of the scariest things I have ever seen and I do not scare easily. The beautiful cinematography, excellent direction and screenwriting and top notch acting from Shannon, Chastain, Whigham, Baker and the little girl were astonishing. Why it didn't even get nominations, let alone win is beyond me. I think most moviegoers now a days don't have patience or presence to appreciate a truly remarkable and captivating story and acting if it isn't riddled with cheap CGI and tons of toilet humor. The Artist was decent but not the best picture by far. In my opinion, I concur with you, this was the best film of 2011 and rarely and sadly do the best films of each year win nor even get nominated.

Amen.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

Because it wasn't diverse enough or because awarding it wouldn't have made a "statement" about anything.

but the film did win the ? critics week grand prize at cannes for 2011 ?

also a lot of similar "critics awards" in austin ? for the actors, writer, and director i believe

i agree: the film is much too "art-house" for the academy...pacing too slow...themes too cerebral...too many layers of meaning
