Plot twists *spoilers, duh*

Holy crap, this movie had so many plot twists, double crosses, and lies it was insane. Does anyones motivation even make sense by the end of the movie, where everything, hilariously and literally, goes up in flames? Did I miss something or does the plot to get Ben Mendelsohn to rob Nicholas Cage make absolutely no sense? Why did they have to frame him to force him to rob Cage, why couldn't they just...I don't know...rob Cage without creating this whole *beep* scenario in between?
