Why all the hate? This was a very good movie.

This movie was so realistic and stayed in my mind for the whole day yesterday. It honestly frightened me more than Kidnapped (Secuestrados). Why all the hate?

reply

I agree. It wasn't awful. It was quite good. I felt the ending was a little much with the nail gun. But up until the ending was excellent. The acting was actually quite great all around (Nicholas Cage was probably the weakest link but he did make it work). I feel critics enjoyed it, because most said they had fun, but they were too embarrassed to give it a higher rating...maybe?

Perhaps the hate is unneccessary but this is not a "very good movie"

It's mediocre at best, a home-invasion thriller based on concepts we seen done many many times before that is poorly executed from a dramaturgical and aestetical point of view, it adds absolutely nothing unique to the genre. It's frankly not a very thrilling thriller, it's just a lotta people shouting at each other.

Even if I always have hated him Joel Schumacher is supposed to be some kind of A-list director, this movie is a perfect ecample that he doesn't deserve the status at all cause there is nothing in this movie that is particularly skillfully executed.

The only thing that I found above average in this is the actress who is playing the daughter, perhaps it's just because she isn't percectly looking she was the only thing that reminded of a real person in this product. Nicole Kidman is also very hot, but thats it.

Well I just finished watching Trespass, and I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think the critics' dismissal of this movie is purely to fuel the Joel Schumacher hate, tbh..

LAST 3 FILMS SEEN: 13 Assassins (9/10) / One Day (6/10) / Priest (7/10)

reply

I disagree that the movie is bad. It was suprisingly good, but the problem is it's not original or memorable.

reply

I agree with the above comments. In fact I was hoping that Cage and/or Kidman would be killed just so the film would end quicker.

reply

Seems to me putting SPOILERs on you comments would only improve this movie. At least then we wouldmknow to notnbothernwith it. Really ifnyou thought this was excellent what have you liked or thought were better or worse ? Hey maybe Giirl with the dragon tattoo ?? Now there is an action film with just a so so plot, yeah some action. Ut wow nothing like Kidman ,wow she rocks when she run run runs. And this film made a lot of money being popular. Cage deserves an Oscar for his perfect pained looking face!! Can you say Ouch?

ies, taken away, but thoughtfull

reply

Actually, if you're talking about the film "Trespass," it didn't make a lot of money...in fact, it lost a lot of money. It cost $35 million to make, and made less than $7.5 million at the box office!

reply

totally agree this movie is a pretty good thriller/action, of course isn't the best movie for Cage or Kidman or Schumacher but this movie is not that bad

This was the worst movie I've seen all year. They took a theme that has been done too many times already and managed to make a movie overwhelmingly worse than any of its predecessors. Terrible from start to finish.

This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Do not read any further if you haven't seen the film. You've been warned.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

Yeah, I hate films where men kill their friends or brothers for the sake of women. There's something about killing your own brother for the sake of a woman who doesn't give a rats *** about you, simply because she's attractive, that has ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way.

It's doubly vile when that same brother saved your life and refused to believe that you ripped him off to orchestrate this whole situation. It's doubly worse because it also implies that that brother intended all along to kill his own flesh and blood for the sake of said woman who isn't interested in him.

Oh, but he's mentally ill...so that's normal, right? Well no, not really...even mentally ill people are capable of not killing their friends and family...even though at times they can make things difficult.

There's so much about this film that came across as so cliche...but this one outcome was the one that I found unforgivable...and I am a moral viewer...at least when it comes to films like these.

Even amongst hardened criminals and thieves, some things are too distasteful...though for conventional movie goers, anytime a guy kills another guy for a girl, it seems to be "positive."

Whatever...it's no "fresher" than misogyny would be!!!

This was a very average movie that brought nothing new to the table.

it took me ages to work this out. i see a lot of films. but isnt this film just a bit too similar to The Truth (2010). All the way through watching Trespass I had the feeling I'd seen it before. They are by no means identical but all the main plot points are in both films, I'm sure more people will draw this comparison once the film is released proper. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1315419/

reply

i didnt mind the film at all and it certainly wasn't bad but i was surprised to see nicole kidman and nicolas cage in this kind of movie. we all know cage and kidman are a list stars but this film was a b grade movie and one that should have been done with b list kind of stars. i'm not being offensive to the movie at all as i said it was ok and certainly not bad but really cage and kidman are kind of above this kind of movie.

You don't inject a guy and then not take his weapons. You don't have that much money and not investigate the guy you have photos of kissing your wife.

You certainly don't run a BMW convertible into a sharp turn sign and the car's front end is totaled and the 4x4 post is still erect with the sign intact.

You don't let anyone in a highly secure building when you never see their faces and all you see is close ups of their badges.

You don't smash a woman's face into a mirror and not make sure she's knocked out. More to the point you pick up the gun and put a slug in her leg and have her tied up.

Too many opportunities to take control and a typical Schumacher film where too many holes result in way too much unnecessary drama for effect and not for the fact chaos is happening.

Kidman's character had several chances to knee someone in the nuts, disarm them and put a slug in them.

Every time the daughter got away, in the house, she never managed to have a phone to access and call 911. She went into plenty of spaces where there was a phone, but she just never called 911.

Amazingly, she manages to call 911 for the Fire Department at the end [we assume as she tells Dad help is on the way], but not before then.

Finally, Nicholas Cage as a mild, middle-aged wimp isn't plausible after so many films where he takes action and does damage.

reply

You're okay with Kidman taking a much larger man hostage with a syringe, but are upset that she didn't fight back more? If anything, I thought Cage and Kidman's characters were WAY too badass. They're supposed to be a slimy diamond dealer and his rich wife. Where the *beep* did they learn to fight at all?

The line between fiction and reality is getting really blurry if you can't tell the difference between a 50-year old actor and the action roles he's played. He's lucky he didn't throw out his hip on the few action scenes they gave him.

reply

If you think the injection will kill or take the guy out of the equation you might.

I think you'll find it was a Porsche, not a BMW. The sign was not on a flimsy post it looked more like a wooden telegraph pole with a light on it, designed specifically to not flop over. The front and rears of modern cars are designed to crumple so as to remove energy from an impact. A more pertinent question would have been why didn't the airbags deploy?

In the heat of the moment the impulse for immediate escape often over rides any desire to hang around to make sure the job is done properly.

Films are about drama, without it they would be tediously boring. As it happens, it all comes together by the end of the film, no more implausible than most films I've seen over the last year.

Really, aren't you the gung-ho one. Most people don't have it in them, even fewer have the ability to kill even in clear and obvious danger. It's a well understood psychological barrier that most humans have.

Didn't they deal with the phone systems at the begining of the film ... so maybe none of them worked .. but perhaps the daughter had a mobile?

They're actors, they are meant to play different roles. You should be appreciating the character, not thinking about the last role(s) the actor played.

That said the film wasn't great but then it wasn't poor either.

reply

Cage does take his shot gun after he injects him.

And it wasnt a BMW, it as daddy's Porsche. The red BMW was the daughter's friends car who nearly crash at that tight turn at the start of the movie.

reply

I endured it three days ago..and it's stayed in my mind too!...(please make the bad movie go away mommy!)

The film was not that Bad don’t understand all the vehement rabid denouncing attacks, certainly there are far worse contenders more deserving this year.

“Do it,so we can all die because I don’t give a *beep* anymore."Nicole Kidman-Trespass 2011.

reply

I think it sucked. They should've added more twists. The only "twist" was that Nicholas Cage really is a broke looser. Witch is fine, had they added another one that he was really super powerful or whatever. So lame.

reply

thanks for ruining the movie for me.

"realistic" are you kidding me! this is one of the worst and unrealistic movie I have seen in a very long time!!! my favorite line was... "Where`s Petal?" seriously... I LAUGHED MY ASS
OFF!!!!!!!. If you wanna se a realistic horror movie, I say Wolf Creek

reply

i pretty much agree with the OP in the basic point as it's more positive than negative at the end of the day.

maybe the Nicolas Cage haters are the ones dissing it mostly?

Bottom line... i give it a 7/10 (maybe a 6.5) (at the VERY least a SOLID 6/10). either way, it's definitely better than it's current 5.6/10 average rating suggests it is. i think it should be at least low 6's (say roughly 6.1-6.3) for the average as it's definitely closer to a 7 than a 5 overall.
