'Let Go' DVD review

"Let Go" is an unnecessarily quirky dramedy that isn’t nearly good enough to be considered the definitive life-after-prison movie. However, we do give it credit for exploring a subject that hasn’t been done to death on screen. Click through for our full review.

...but how did you really feel about the movie?

Agreed. Sappy ending. Mysterious ring. Stupid parole officer. yuk

The job requirement as written is weird. Kris kept saying he was on probation and couldn't find a job as an ex-con. But...you're not really an "ex-con" if you only got probation. People on probation don't do prison time and would not have a parole officer. BAD writing...

If he was truly on probation he would have to report to a judge who technically could have made finding employment a condition of his probation. But in order to go to jail there would have to be a hearing for a probation violation. A probation officer would never handcuff someone and take them to jail for not having a job.

If you're out on parole, it's expected of you to find work as one of the many conditions of your release, but I doubt a real parole officer would be threatening to throw a rich guy back in prison just for not working at McDonalds. And I have to wonder where Kris gets his money. He's no longer a doctor. He's fairly young and not likely to be independently wealthy. Not all doctors are crazy rich. They have mortgages and student loans too. He couldn't have sustained his fancy lifestyle sitting around on the couch. At some point he'd have to find work.

The other thing that bothered me was the idea that Darla was so successfully manipulative based solely on her looks. She wasn't that desirable to make Walter's behavior believable. It was more bad writing to have every single guy act like they'd never seen a woman before and gawk at her as she walked by. Not convincing. Walter's wife wasn't a dog either. I understand that a guy will get tired of a woman no matter how good she looks, but at least be realistic. The casting director found dumpy women for other roles...why not the wife?

The people you idolize wouldn't like you.
